Rick Cataldo began training to become a wrestler during the Summer of 2004 at IWF (Independent Wrestling Federation) in Paterson, New Jersey, at the age of 14 years old. Rick pursued a career in wrestling after being inspired by the women in wrestling, and was especially inspired by former WWE Diva Terri Runnels, in which he has stated that he "wanted to be the characters she portrayed during her time" (Rick Cataldo Lethalwow Q&A). Rick made his debut as a manager in February of 2005 at IWF, managing numerous wrestlers. He later made his wrestling debut in November 2005. At IWF, Matt Bennett, Jana and Frederick Rosser (WWE's Darren Young) were amound the wrestlers Rick trained with. After IWF, Rick went on to wrestle for numerous promotions, and furthered his training at WWE Hall of Famer Johnny Rodz's WUW(World of unpredictable wrestling).
