Mercedes
Martinez began training to be a wrestler
in October of 2000, with former ECW
star Jason Knight. She had her
debut match just one month later, in November of
2000. Her early matches saw her wrestle for Jason
Knight's Assault Championship Wrestling
and later for New England Championship Wrestling
(NECW), in which the Women's Division was
built around her. In the years that followed, she
made quite the name for herself wrestling for numerous
independent promotions, which included IWA Mid South
and Connecticut Championship Wrestling. By the end
of 2005, she wrestled the best of the best on the
independent circuit. Wrestlers she mixed it up with
included Cindy Rogers, Beck
Bayless (TNA's Cookie), Tracy Brooks, Sumie
Sakai, April Hunter, MsChif, Daizee Haze, Mickie
Knuckles, Violet Flame, Ariel, Angel
Orsini, Velvet Sky, Nikki Roxx and numerous
others. Championships she captured included the
NWA Midwest Women's Championship, WXW Women's Championship,
and NECW World Women's Championship.
