Maryse Ouellet was born
on January 21, 1983 in Montreal, Quebec and began to
get recognition as a model before trying out for the
World Wrestling Entertainment in the 2006 Diva Search
Contest. She made the finals of the Diva search contest
(Layla El won the contest), and was later signed to
a developmental contract on August 24, 2006 with the
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). She began working
in Ohio Valley Wrestling into 2007, where she shared
the ring with the likes of Beth Phoenix, Katie Lea,
Beth Phoenix, Milena Roucka, Victoria Crawford and more.
She made minor appearances on Raw and Smackdown and
later worked for Florida Championship Wrestling for
the second half of 2007.
In 2008, she began making frequent appearances on Smackdown
and on March 30, 2008 at WrestleMania 24, she participated
as a Lumberjill in the Playboy BunnyMania match. On
May 9, 2008 on SmackDown!, Deuce & Domino dumped their
valet Cherry and replaced her with Maryse. She then
began to have a more permanent role on the show. She
made her Smackdown! in-ring debut on May 16, 2008, where
she was defeated by Cherry (Kara
Drew). Both ladies then continued to feud. By September,
she was involved in a heated feud against Divas Champ;
Michelle McCool and got her first title shot at Unforgiven.
On September 23, 2008 Maryse picked up a huge victory
on ECW on Sci-Fi, as she defeated Divas champion Michelle
McCool in a Non-title match. She continued wrestling
regularly and retained animosity against McCool, yet
she couldn't quite win the title. On the December 26,
2008 edition of SmackDown!, she finally defeated Michelle
McCool to become the Divas Champion, after hitting
McCool with a heel kick. She became the second woman
to hold the belt.
Unfortunately for Maryse, she dislocated her knee a
few days later on December 28, 2008, at a house show.
This was not a serious injury, and returned to television
on the January 23, 2009 episode of SmackDown, doing
commentary during a WWE Divas match. A month later,
Maryse wrestled her first match since her injury, where
she and Michelle McCool teamed up, to defeat Maria Kanellis
and Eve Torres. A rivalry against WWE Women's Champion
Melina then happened. This led to her defeating Women's
Champion Melina Perez on the March 9, 2009 airing of
WWE RAW. She continued wrestling on a weekly basis,
and went on to wrestle in the 25-Diva "Miss WrestleMania"
Battle Royal at WrestleMania 25. Two weeks later, on
the April 13, 2009 airing of RAW, WWE Women's champion
Melina was then drafted to Smackdown!, and Maryse---the
WWE Diva's champion, was drafted to RAW.
A feud with Mickie James followed, which led to July
26, 2009, at WWE Night of Champions, where Mickie James
defeated her to win the Divas title. Maryse's reign
lasted 216 days. After the loss, she underwent knee
surgery, and took time off from WWE programming.
On the November 23, 2009 airing of WWE RAW, she made
her return, where she attacked WWE Diva's champion Melina
Perez. Maryse was disguised in a Gobbledy Gooker costume.
A feud with Melina followed; however, the Divas title
was vacated after the Melina suffered injury. An eight
diva tournament to crown a new Champion then followed.
On the February 22, 2010 airing of WWE RAW, Maryse Ouellet
defeated Gail Kim in the Tournament Finals, to win the
WWE Divas Title. Maryse's second title reign lasted
49days, where she lost it on the April 12, 2010 airing
of Raw, to Eve Torres. Maryse continued to wrestle in
the WWE Divas Division throughout the year, and became
Ted DiBiase's personal assistant. The onscreen pairing
of Ted DiBiase and Maryse continued into 2012, as the
appeared on both Raw and WWE NXT.
On October 28, 2011, Maryse was released from her World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) contract.
