Amy Dumas was inspired to get into
wrestling by WCW's Rey Mysterio, Jr., and began working
in the Independent Promotions under the name Angelica.
Her early days include time in Mexico, attempting to
learn the art.

Soon after, Paul Heyman, the then owner and booker of
ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling) picked up Amy to
work for the company. She began working in ECW as the
girlfriend to Danny Doring under the name Miss Congeniality
(and later under the name; Angelica). There she had
her first encounters with Jazz (Carlene Begnaud), and
was on the receiving end of severe beatings from Jazz.
She did however pick up various wins during ECW shows,
in which she often teamed up with Danny Doring and Roadkill
in mixed matches against Super Nova, Chris Chetti, and
Jazz.

In late 1999,
Amy Dumas was signed
to a WWF development contract, and made a February 2000
television debut under the name "
Lita".
On February 8th, 2000 (a Sunday Night Heat taping) Lita
accompanied Essa Rios who defeated Gillberg to win the
World Wrestling Federation's Light Heavyweight champion.
Fans were immediately fascinated with Lita as she mimicked
Essa Rios by performing a top rope Moonsault on Gillberg,
which was a stunning debut for Lita.
Lita
continued to amaze WWE fans as she performed moonsaults
and hurricanranas on Essa Rios's opponents. During this
time, Lita got a shot at the WWF Women's Championship
on March 23rd, 2000 during Smackdown against Jacqueline;
however she did not pick up the win. Essa Rios and Lita
then embarked on a short lived feud against Eddie Guerrero
and Chyna. The feud climaxed on May 4th, 2000 on Smackdown
as Eddy Guerrero and Chyna defeated Essa Rios and Lita.
The team of Essa Rios and Lita came to an end in an
on screen split. Lita then joined forces with Hardy
Boyz to form Team Extreme. A feud with team extreme
against T&A (Test & Albert) with Trish Stratus followed.
This was the begging of the long lived Trish vs. Lita
rivalry, one of the greatest Women's rivalries in WWE
history. One highlight of this feud was Lita and The
Rock defeated Triple H and Trish, which took place on
July 31st, 2000 on Raw.
At this point she developed a cult following, for her
high flying spots, and her exposed thong in her outfits.
It was only natural that she held the WWF Women's championship.
On August 21, 2000 in a huge Raw main event, she pinned
Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley to win the WWF Women's Championship,
with The Rock as the special guest referee. A feud with
Jacqueline followed as one week later on Raw, she would
defeat Jacqueline; however, suffer an attack from Jacqueline,
Edge and Christian, who sided with Jacqueline in the
weeks that followed. Her feud with Jacqueline spanned
various mixed gender matches, and concluded with Lita
defeating Jacqueline in a Women's Hardcore match. Her
first reign ended when Ivory defeated her on the November
2, 2000 episode of Smackdown.

Ivory being part of a stable called "Right to Censor"
became a permanent torn at her side. Lita however never
managed to regain the title from Ivory. One spotlight
match in their feud includes 2000's Survivor series
Pay Per View in which turned into a bloodbath as Lita
ended the match covered in her own blood.
Amy Dumas continued to compete in the Women's Division
into 2001, while having a feud against Dean Malenko.
On May 20th, 2001 in Sacramento, CA at the Judgment
Day Pay Per View, she took on the WWF Women's Champ
Chyna, and despite not winning the title, it was one
of her best matches, and Chyna's last Pay Per View in
the WWF. Soon after, she became involved in the WCW
Invasion storyline, and teamed up with Trish Stratus
to defeat Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson at the Invasion
Pay Per View.
Soon Jazz made her way into the WWF, in which she found
out first hand at the 2001 Survivor Series in a six-pack
challenge for the WWF Women's title. In 2002, Jazz captured
the title, and went on a rampage defeating WWF Women.
Attacks to both her and Trish lead up to a Wrestlemania
2002 3-Way, in which Jazz defeated both Lita and Trish
in an amazing showing. Lita & Trish gained some retribution
on March 21st, 2002's Smackdown as Lita & Trish defeat
Ivory & Jazz in a tag-team match. Soon after on April
6th, 2002, Lita suffered an injury on the set of Dark
Angel, and had to undergo surgery. This kept her out
of in-ring action, and later in the year she became
a Sunday Night Heat color commentator.

On September 15th, 2003's edition of RAW, Lita made
a long awaited return. Lita ran down to the ring and
saving Trish Stratus from Molly Holly & Gail Kim, who
were about to perform a career ending move to Trish.
Lita's return happened in the midst of weeks of attacks
to Trish Stratus from Molly and Gail. This lead to 2003's
Unforgiven Pay Per View where she and Trish Stratus
defeated Molly Holly and Gail Kim in a huge tag-team
match. The next night on September 22nd, 2003's RAW,
she and Trish defeated Molly and Gail yet again in an
incredible match that was a hit among the WWE audience.
Lita was a featured wrestler in the WWE Women's Division
for the rest of the year, including taking on the Women's
Championship; Molly Holly at Survivor Series (November
16, 2003) and facing off with Victoria in the WWE's
first Women's Steel Cage Match (November 24, 2003).
During this time, she and Trish faced off against Chris
Jericho and Christian at Armageddon (December 14, 2003)
in which Christian & Chris Jericho defeated Lita & Trish
Stratus in an Inter-gender Match.
For the beginning of 2004, Lita continued to wrestle in the Women's Division. She was faced yet again with Jazz, Molly Holly and Victoria. A huge upset came on February 23rd, 2004's RAW when Victoria defeated Molly Holly, Lita & Jazz in a 4-way elimination to capture the Woman's championship. Victoria eliminated Lita to pick up the victory, however it wouldn't be their last meeting. After winning 7 Women Battle Royal on April 5th, 2004's RAW to become the number 1 contender for the Women's title, she faced the Women's Champion; Victoria at Backlash (April 18, 2004), but came up short.

In April, Lita's participation in the Women's Division
lessened as she became the Object of Kane's Affection.
An onscreen storyline saw Lita married and having a
child for Kane. On the August 23rd, 2004 episode of
RAW, a very memorable wedding took place between a reluctant
Lita and Kane, highlights included a catfight with Trish
Stratus, who taunted Lita throughout the Kane storyline.
On the September 13th, 2004 episode of RAW, Lita miscarried
after Gene Snitsky struck Kane with a chair and causing
him to knock Lita over. This twist in the storyline
saw Lita and Kane became attached to each other. A few
week later, fans saw Lita defeat Trish Stratus on the
December 6th, 2004 episode of RAW, which served as the
storyline coming to a full circle for Lita's character,
seeing as she endured nothing but bad karma throughout
the year.
