This week on WWE Superstars, Gail Kim defeated Katie Lea, in a warm up match for her match against Maryse at WWE Elimination Chamber. Will she become the new WWE Divas Champion come Sunday? On Smackdown, we found out that Mickie would be defending her WWE Women’s Championship against Michelle McCool on next week’s Smackdown, and Maria and Natalya saw some ring-action in a 6-person mixed tag match.

WWE Divas – February 18, 2010 Superstars Match:
Gail Kim vs. Katie Lea

—Gail Kim was shown making her way to the ring before a commercial break. She made her entrance first when the show came back from commercials, followed by Katie Lea. This was pretty back and fort at the start, with Katie and Gail working very well together. After sending Gail Kim shoulder first into one of the corner turnbuckles, Katie worked on her shoulder… here is one scenario where psychology in a divas match came off authentic, knowing that both women have been working wrestling rings for 10years. Gail Kim was able to persevere despite Katie Lea’s targeting of her shoulders, inevitable hitting her “Eat Defeat” for the win. After the match, Maryse come to the top of the ramp and applauded Gail.

This match should have been on Raw this week. Gail Kim and Katie Lea should definitely be pushed more on Raw as this match showed were the talent is.

Winner(s): Gail Kim at 4:15

—On Smackdown, Vickie Guerrero caught Theodore Long watching a replay of Mickie throwing cottage cheese in her face by accident, from last week’s Smackdown (WWE Divas – February 12, 2010 Smackdown results). Mickie James then made her way into the room, apologizing for the incident. A still bitter Vickie then announced that Mickie will have to defend her title on next week’s episode of WWE Smackdown against Michelle McCool, with herself as the special guest referee.

Great to see Vickie further involved with the WWE Divas.

WWE Divas – February 19, 2010 Smackdown Match:
The Hart Dynasty vs. Maria, Matt Hardy and The Great Khali

—Maria with her valentine Matt Hardy, and The Great Khali made their way to the ring fist for this match, accompanied by Ranjin Singh. The Hart Dynasty then made their entrance.

Maria and Natalya started the match, with Natalya dominating the beginning exchange. After being irish whipped to one of the ropes, Maria held on, and followed with a hard kick to Natalya’s shoulder. Natalya tagged Tyson when Maria had the upper hand.

The ladies returned to action at the end of the match, with Natalya bringing Maria in the ring the hard way…flipping her over the top ropes. She followed with her discus clothesline for the win.

Winner(s): The Hart Dynasty at 4:12

After a commercial break, Maria and Matt Hardy got in an argument backstage. The two made up and were about to kiss when Michelle and Layla interrupted, making fun of their bad track record with love… “Children, would you please grow up”…nice!. Good one Matt.

On this week’s Smackdown, Beth Phoenix took on independent wrestler She Nay Nay, and Michelle McCool, Mickie James, Layla and Natalya competed in a Divas Costume Contest.

On Friday’s edition of Smackdown we saw Beth Phoenix destroy the young Jenny Brooks (aka She Nay Nay). It is rare that WWE goes out of their way to bring in unknown female talent to work as Jobbers. We could all remember years back Victoria wrestled Mercedes Martinez, Melissa Anderson & Talia Madison. Although this match wasn’t as competitive as those encounters, Beth Phoenix seems to be on this new road to becoming the major player she truly is. Expect to see more of Beth Phoenix the coming weeks as she seems to be Michael Hayes new pet project. We could also see some new female faces have their 3 minutes of fame on a weekly basis. In the end Beth Phoenix showed her dominance and is on the road to becoming a major threat in the division once again.

This week also featured a Divas Costume Contest featuring Mickie James dressed as Elektra, Michelle McCool dressed as a “She-Devil”, while Natalya dressed up as a “Matador” and Layla dressed surprisingly as Michael Jackson. Although Layla got surprising support from the crowd in one of the most unique choice of costumes, Mickie James in the end, for the third year in a row, once again won the divas costume contest. But in Costume contest tradition, the divas brawled. It seem all eyes were on Mickie James and the three women were about to take her out, but a miscommunication between Natalya and Layla could have made this attack a major failure but Michelle outsmarted Mickie once again by taking her out. The segment wasn’t as good as it could have been, but it served its purpose.

On another note, Vickie Guererro, dressed as princes, came out with her latin boy toy Eric Escobar standing at ringside. Escobar could really benefit from the amount of heat Vickie draws.
