—This week seemed like a great time to write a new “Rundown,” after months of hiatus. So much is currently going on, or has happened in the last couple of weeks in women’s wrestling. From Angelina Love’s shocking release just days from crowning the first ever TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions, to Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s 2009 Top 50 Female Wrestlers list being revealed.
—The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported an interesting Beth Phoenix rumor this week. According to them, she is not in the title picture due to the WWE focusing on bikini-looking women on Raw. Beth has not appeared since the June 29th edition of Raw.
—In a very shocking turn of events, Anglina Love picked up an unexpected win against Tara at Victory Road to regain the TNA knockouts title. The win was a controversial one, as Victoria’s leg was on the ropes when the referee made the 3-count. This was apparently a screw-job on the part of the referee and The Beautiful People. The loss, gave Tara a 24-day reign.
—Sarita (Sarah Stock) made her TNA debut against “Future Legend” Alissa Flash, in what was an incredible television match. The match was arguably the best Knockouts match we have seen on television in 2009. Alissa Flash (Better known as TNA’s Raisha Saeed), dominated the match with power moves, while Sarita pulled off some incredible high-flying maneuvers. Sarita’s speed was definitely mesmerizing to view (Her springboard arm-drag put Gail Kim’s to shame), however Alissa consistently countered Sarita’s offense.
—A New TNA Webmatch is online; Awesome Kong vs. Sojo Bolt. The match serves as promo for the Sharmell vs. Jenna Morasca match at TNA Victory Road. Sojo will be in the corner of Sharmell and Awesome Kong will be in the corner of Jenna. This was a good 4-minute match by the ladies, not a total squash, which made Sojo look. A good showing from Sojo, as she has been receiving a lot of heat for her in-ring work by wrestling fans. (NOTE: Awesome Kong’s manager Raisha Saeed did not accompany her.)
