In 2005, SHIMMER Women Athletes—an all-female Wrestling promotion, was launched. The Chicago based promotion was founded by Dave Prazak, and also ran by wrestler Allison Danger. In just a few years, the promotion rose to become arguably the most influential organization for Women’s Wrestling in recent times.
Shimmer shows happen just a few times a year, where DVDs are filmed. The first two DVDs filmed took place on November 6, 2005, at the Eagles Club in Berwyn, Illinois… The DVDs were named Volume one and Volume two. Going forward, DVDs were numbered in chronological order by its Taping. The Taping of the first two DVDS included top names in Women’s Wrestling, including Beth Phoenix, Taylor Wilde (aka Shantelle Taylor), Nikki Roxx (aka Roxxi Laveaux), Sara Del Rey, Cheerleader Melissa and Mercedes Martinez. The very first Shimmer main-event saw Daizee Haze defeat Lacey.
On June 2, 2007—Shimmer Volume 12, the first Shimmer Champion was crowned. Sara Del Rey defeated Lacey, in the finals of a 16-woman tournament. Sara went on to reign as Champion for 329 days. During this time, the Shimmer Championship was also defended at ROH (Ring of Honor) Death before Dishonor V (Night Two) on November 11, 2007—where Sara once again defeated Lacey, and ROH’s Sixth Anniversary Show on February 23, 2008, where she defeated Daizee Haze. Future Champions were also recognized by Ring of Honor, as well as Full Impact Pro, PWWA and Shine Wrestling.
On October 19, 2008—Shimmer Volume 21, the first Shimmer Tag-Team Champions were crowned. Ashley Lane (aka Madison Rayne) and Nevaeh defeated The Experience (Lexie Fyfe and Malia Hosaka)—in a Six Team Gauntlet match, to be crowned Champs. The Tag Team Titles were also recognized by Ring of Honor, and defended at numerous promotions over the years.
