The Knockouts Division in TNA Wrestling is hardly three months old, but is already taking the wrestling world by storm. This past Thursday on “iMPACT”, the ladies had their first opportunity to wrestle in the coveted main event slot when defending Knockouts Champion Gail Kim put the title on the line one more time against Awesome Kong.
After successfully defending the title against Kong at Final Resolution, the brute force of the seemingly unstoppable Kong finally proved too much for the first-ever Knockouts Champion as she was pinned following a series of devastating moves, including three straight power bombs. Kim was left laying in the ring as Awesome Kong celebrated in the ring with her newly won championship.
But Kong wasn’t alone in her celebration. She was escorted to the ring by an unknown woman covered in cloth from head to toe. Only her eyes were visible, and all that is known about her is that she is a “new associate” of the Awesome One. Though she did not blatantly interfere in the title match, she did provide enough distraction to Gail Kim to allow Awesome Kong an opening to finish the job she had started almost two months ago.
Who is this woman, and what is her agenda here in TNA? Perhaps only she and Kong know for sure, but the rest of the Knockouts had better take notice and beware. Awesome Kong was dangerous and unpredictable before, but with this wild card added to her arsenal anything could be possible.
Now that Awesome Kong has been officially been crowned as the top of the Knockouts Division, what does that mean for the rest of the Knockouts? Kong has been absolutely dominant since her debut, and must be an intimidating sight for anyone looking to climb that mountain of success. Do any of the Knockouts have what it takes to unseat this Awesome Champion? Will anyone even try?
Prior to the match ODB issued a challenge to whoever walked away from “iMPACT” as the champion. She has proven herself to be one of the toughest, and certainly craziest, women in the sport, but does even she have the guts to go looking for a fight with Awesome Kong? The two have yet to be on opposing sides of the ring, but surely ODB has been scouting Kong with a careful eye. Was her challenge a display careless disregard, or could it have been just the opposite? Maybe ODB has seen something in new Champion that Gail Kim neglected to notice.
And what about the former Champion? Will she be in good enough condition after this week’s brutal matches to avenge her loss? A loss like that can be damaging to the confidence of even the best athletes, and if Gail is not one hundred percent mentally when she gets her rematch, the champ may make quick work of her.
Thursday marked the beginning of two new eras for TNA: the rise of the Knockouts Division and crowning of a new Champion. The reign of Awesome Kong has begun. Will anyone be able to end it?
