If you're a male wrestling fan and our blood is red, you're probably among the legions of Tori/Torrie fans who pack arenas nationwide in an attempt to catch a glimpse of the two vixens. There's certainly nothing wrong with admiring the WWF's Tori and WCW's Torrie Wilson.
Here at The Wrestler, we couldn't resist indulging in one of our favorite fantasies: comparing the assets of Tori against the assets of Torrie. Competition for the assignment was unusually fierce in the office, as the writer of the story would have to spend hours upon hours scouting the two females, both on tape and in person. Associate Editor Frank Krewda just about j headline meeting when the topic was broached. So, after a shockingly heated discussion, we finally settled on watching the tapes as a group, but traveling independent of one another when it came time to watch Tori and Torrie in person. Editor-in-Chief Dave Lenker, Associate Editors Frank Krewda and Will Welsh and Senior Writers Harry Burkett and Dave Rosenbaum all participated in the assessment and no one but them knows who graded what categories in out 10-point must system.
Conditioning
When Tori entered the sport in 1990, she was a 5'7", 152-pound
former bodybuilder. As a valet in the Pacific Northwest and
a competitor in the LPWA, she was labeled an "Amazon" and, in
many ways, was a forerunner of Chyna. After shedding some bulk
and a few cosmetic enhancements, Terri Power was transformed
into the sheet-writing, bikini-wearing Tori. Torrie Wilson,
at least in the competitive sense, could not keep pace with
Tori in a wrestling match. Tori scores a perfect 10, while Torrie,
one of the nation's premier fitness models, gets an eight.
Fashion Sense
Torrie Wilson is the female version of Jerry Lewis: She never wears the same suit twice. Whether it's a business suit or a bathing suit, you can bet she will look gorgeous in it. Even when the Power-That-Be threw her a lowly referee's outfit, as Bobby Heenan put it, looked like tea bags, she awed the arena crowd. Torrie's outfits-usually designed with stripes or low-key patterns-do not take away from her shapely figure, and they usually enhance it. Tori on the other hand, often wears clothes that are too small for her musculature, making her look uncomfortable and nervy. Torrie the more sensible of the two, gets a 10. Tori scores a seven.
Marketability
Tori has the benefit of the WWE marketing department behind
her, the greatest hype machine in sports entertainment. After
a year in the second tier, Tori is now a member of DeGeneration
X. The tawdry Tori, wearing black and neon green, is more marketable
than ever. Torrie Wilson, unlike Tori, has no entrance music
or definitive persona. Walking around with a camcorder Is her
idea of a gimmick. Didn't Tori's boyfriend, X-Pac, already do
that a bit? Thanks to the WWF, Tori scores a 10. Thanks to WCW,
Torrie gets half that.
Body
Let's face it: The bodies of Tori and Torrie are the most important
aspect of their allure. Tori's build is lanky and muscular,
bordering on the exotic. Torrie possesses more of a prom Queen's
body, though hers is more defined than any hometown girl's.
Both girls forged their physiques in the gym, Tori concentrating
on mass, Torrie on tone. Nothing beats Ms. Wilson's girl-next-door
appeal. She earns a 10, while Tori gets a solid 9.
Beauty
Tori has enticing, exaggerated features: dark eyebrows, accented
cheekbones, and thick, rosy lips. Torrie's countenance is less
pronounced and can be summed up in one word: cure. Add two deep
dimples and Torrie Wilson is our undisputed winner. She earns
a 10. Tori scores another nine.
Grace
Torrie Wilson exhibited her grace in her first WCW appearance.
It was a series of vignettes depicting her luring an unidentified
person (later shown to be David Flair) through elevators, corridors
and, finally, to a hotel room. Since then, she's been shown
in the most favorable circumstances and hasn't been subjected
to physical violence. Tori scores lower, probably because we've
seen her get down and dirty with Sable, Jacquelyn and others.
We also saw Ivory spray-paint some unflattering words on Tori's
body. Ms. Wilson, however, never stutters, never stumbles, and
never gets herself in physical situations. She scores a 10,
while Tori gets a six.
Intelligence
We're not talking about SAT score intelligence here. We mean
intelligence inside the world of wrestling. Wilson mad an immediate
impact on the sport when she convinced David Flair to shock
his father, Rick, with a taser at SuperBrawl '99. She escorted
David while remaining on the payroll of the NOW. Today she has
latched on to rising star Kidman. Meanwhile, she earns big bucks
for her appearances without talking in promos or subjecting
herself to actually competition. Tori has been slung around
by the hair, spray-painted, and flattened by Kane's tombstone
piledriver. Torrie gets payed for looking pretty. Smart woman.
That earns her a 10, while Tori gets a seven.
Trustworthiness
The WWF's Tori doesn't completely bomb out, because she has
only betrayed one person: Kane. Otherwise, she has remained
loyal to her friends, including the ungrateful Sable and her
current beau, X-Pac. She scores a six. Wilson was the scorpion
that lured David Flair into the NOW web, but she never turned
against David. She just dumped him. She was also loyal to The
Filthy Animals and has been an inspiring companion for Kidman.
There were rumors of a relationship with Eddy Guerrero, as documented
on Nitro, but those charges are unsubstantiated. As a result,
Torrie gets a 10.
Athleticism
Tori earns an easy 10 here. She defeated Lelani Kai and Judy
Martin during her rookie year in LPWA. Roddy Piper was among
the veterans who helped train Tori in her hometown of Portland,
Oregon. She has been a contender for the women's title since
her WWF debut. Torrie Wilson was involed in a six-person match
at Mayhem, but she showed little interest in participating.
She nabs a six.
Impact
What is Torrie Wilson's role anyway? She isn't a wrestler or
a manager. Does she consider herself a valet? As it is now,
Torrie is only an ornament, albeit a very attractive one. Tori,
however, has put in 10 tough years and is reaching her zenith
in the WWF. For better or worse, she turned Kane's life upside-down
and inspired Paul Bearer's return to the federation. As X-Pac's
girlfriend, she's an instrumental part of DX and is likely to
remain an impact player in the future. Torrie earns only three
points, while Tori gets a well deserved 10.
