Women of Wrestling DVD Reviews

One of the things the Attitude Era is remembered for is all the puppies on display. There were also some kitties too! Stacy Carter came into WWF in 1999 as a valet to Jeff Jarrett and Debra – known as Miss Kitty and later The Kat. Over the next year, she would provide all sorts of fun and crazy moments for the fans. She had a catfight with Terri at WrestleMania 2000, she battled Tori in chocolate pudding, she managed Chyna, she bared her breasts on live TV and she was even Women’s Champion briefly. This is Diva Diaries with Stacy Carter, hosted by Josette Bynum. The video can be purchased here. The review is after the cut.

As a gift to you all, I decided to dip down into the archives of RF Video and see if we couldn’t get another good shoot interview for us to enjoy. Sure enough, one I didn’t expect to see was available. Kelly Kelly – former Divas’ Champion and probably one of the bigger stars of the ‘Diva Era’ – sits down with Tommy Dreamer and discusses her career. You can purchase the DVD at this link.

It’s been forever since I reviewed a DVD for y’all, so I decided to dip into my collection of shoot interviews. It’s quite odd to see one that was made before a performer returned to the company. Notably the New Age Outlaws did a lot of interviews burying the likes of Shawn Michaels and Triple H – which become positively hilarious now that they’ve been re-employed by WWE. The Bella Twins recorded this interview after their 2012 departure. They didn’t enjoy anything close to the amount of TV time they got when they returned, so let’s see if there’s anything good in this one.

kaitlyn shoot interview

It’s been over four months since WWE Diva Kaitlyn parted ways with the company. You all know what that means – shoot interview time! Kaitlyn sat down with RF Video to produce her first shoot interview. She talks about her bodybuilding background, her time on NXT Season 3, her rise to the top as Divas’ Champion – and much more. Read below after the cut to see what my thoughts on it are.

It’s been almost a year since I last reviewed a DVD for this website but it was my birthday last week. Which means I’ve had a chance to stock up on some nice goodies for me to share with you all. I’m not really one to purchase shoot interviews. Sometimes if it sounds interesting, I’ll try to find it online but I can normally live without it. But this interview was from one of my original favourite Divas. Tori was around during the Attitude Era and was one of the first WWE Divas ever. She was in the first women’s hardcore match, the first Diva to get Tombstoned by Kane, she was in DX, she feuded with Sable and she was everywhere for a while. Then after her 2001 release, she left wrestling altogether and dropped off the radar. Nearly eleven years later, she made her first wrestling-related appearance (at the Legends of the Ring convention). And now here is her first ever shoot interview. Of course I had to get the DVD and get to know what one of my favourite Divas was really like.

This is breaking the streak of my birthday DVDs a little but there’s a very good reason. The main one being this comes chronologically before the last DVD I got for my birthday. But another reason is that this is probably my favourite SHIMMER event out of the ones I’ve seen and it was only the second one I ever saw. I think that the company has really come into a good position with this set of tapings and they’ve gone in a great direction since. So this is the final Volume taped at this particular weekend and we are “live” from the Berwyn Eagles club as always.

The card is as follows:

*Kellie Skater vs Taylor Made

*Christina Von Eerie vs Mercedes Martinez

*Melanie Cruise vs MsChif

*Athena vs Jessie McKay

*The Knight Dynasty w/Rebecca Knox vs Re-Generation X

*Sara Del Rey vs Jessica James

*Cheerleader Melissa vs LuFisto vs Serena Deeb vs Portia Perez (4-Corner Survival)

*Ayumi Kurihara vs Nicole Matthews

*Seven Star Sisters* vs Daizee Haze & Tomoka Nakagawa (SHIMMER Tag Team Championships)

*Madison Eagles* vs Ayako Hamada (SHIMMER Championship)

And it’s time for SHIMMER DVD number two in my sack of birthday goodies with some real star power lined up on the card. This is Volume 30 taking place a couple of months after the previous DVD I reviewed and here’s a look at the show’s line-up:

* Malia Hosaka vs. Leva Bates

* Melanie Cruise & Annie Social vs. Rachel & Jessica’s Excellent Tag Team

* LuFisto vs. Cat Power

* Mercedes Martinez vs. “The Rate Tank” Kellie Skater
