Kia Stevens made a name for herself after being trained in Japan by All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling (AJW) and quickly rising to be one of Japan's top competitors as "Amazing Kong", after debuting in October of 2002. This was evident, when she won the Japan Grand Prix an annual professional wrestling tournament by All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling to determine the number 1 contender for the WWWA World Heavyweight Championship. Amazing Kong became the WWWA World Heavyweight Championship on January 4, 2004 defeating Ayako Hamada.
Amazing Kong also held the WWWA Tag Team titles with Aja Kong, on October 6, 2004, they were known as Double Kong. The legendary Aja Kong is where Amazing Kong got her name, so the pairing was fitting. Both women also held the Hustle Super Tag Team Championship as Erika and Margaret and the AAAW Tag Team Championship. Other tag team highlights for Amazing Kong, was holding the NEO Tag Team Championship twice, one with Matsuo Haruka and the other with Kyoko Kimura.
In the USA, Amazing Kong made an immediate impact. She wrestled
in Shimmer "Women Athletes", in which she generated a huge
following. In SHIMMER Women Athletes Volume 5, Amazing Kong
defeated Nikki
Roxx (Roxxi Laveaux). In SHIMMER Volume 6 she
teamed up with Lexie
Fyfe and Malia Hosaka to defeat Cindy Rogers,
Ariel and Josie. In Shimmer Women Athletes Volume 9 Amazing
Kong defeated MsChif and a huge match-up and defeated Daizee
Haze in Volume 10.
In Shimmer Women Athletes Volume 15, Amazing Kong took on
Sara Del Rey for the Shimmer title, however she lost after
a count out. Though she didn't win the Shimmer title, she already had her first taste of gold in the USA was winning the NWA World Women's title after defeating MsChif on May 5, 2007.
In Volume 16 she returned to her winning ways
and defeated Cheerleader
Melissa.
After top notch Shimmer matches, Amazing Kong made her Total Nonstop Action wrestling debut on October 11, 2007 on TNA iMPACT!, where she defeated Gail Kim in a Knockouts match. Amazing Kong was previously announced as one of the participants in the TNA Bound For Glory Gauntlet match to crown the 1st TNA Women's Champion. She was a huge favorite among Women's Wrestling aficionados however she was eliminated by Gail Kim, ODB and Angle Williams. At the Pay-Per-View, she took on the name "Awesome Kong"
Though Gail Kim was the Women's Champion, Awesome Kong went on a rampage, defeating opponents in numerous squash matches. On the October 18, 2007 episode of TNA iMPACT, Awesome Kong defeated Talia Madison after a Sit-Out Powerbomb, known as the "Awesome Bomb." THe next week on the October 25, 2007 edition of TNA iMPACT, she defeated Angel Williams. Awesome Kong began to bring a 8X10 photo of Gail Kim to the ring and it was clear that she was after the TNA Women's title. The squashes continued as she defeated Christy Hemme on the November 1, 2007 iMPACT! and pointed towards Gail Kim at TNA's Genesis Pay-per-view on November 11, 2007 after Gail Kim successfully defended her title in a 4-WAY.
On November 15, 2007 after Awesome Kong defeated Alexa Jade on TNA iMPACT in a squash match, Gail Kim came to ringside and the women had a huge brawl in which they had to be separated. A TNA Women's title match was then set for the Turning Point Pay-Per-view. On December 2, 2007 at TNA Turning Point Gail Kim defeated Awesome Kong by DQ to retain the TNA World Women's title. Though losing, Awesome Kong dominated the match and it was her defiance towards the referee that led the referee to disqualify her. After the match Kong hit a sit-out power bomb on the referee, choke slammed Velvet Sky, hit Angeline Love in the face with a chair, and sit-out powerbomb Gail Kim on a steal chair. "Who will stop Awesome Kong," was the re-emphasized slogan that night with the carnage caused by Awesome Kong. The match was considered by many to be the best women's match of 2007.
Turning Point was only the beginning of the feud. On the December 6, 2007 edition of TNA iMPACT, Awesome Kong attacked Gail Kim and both ladies brawled until they had to be separated. On December 20, 2007 on TNA iMPACT: Awesome Kong and Gail brawled within a 8-woman "Santa's Workshop Knockouts Street Fight." Gail and Kong were not there to spread holiday cheer, after Kong won the match, a brawl between the ladies saw Gail hit Kong with 3 chair shots.
A No DQ match was signed between the two at TNA's Final Resolution pay-per-view in Orlando, FL on January 6, 2008. Gail Kim beat Awesome Kong which was a huge upset, in a tremendous match-up. Days later, on the January 10, 2008 edition of iMPACT!, in the Main Event, Awesome Kong defeated Gail Kim after two powerbombs, followed by an "Awesome Bomb", to win the TNA Women's title. The match was hyped with promos, and commentary from Kurt Angle, O.D.B and Jay Lethal. That night, Kong was accompanied by a new "associate", hidden under middle eastern attire.
