WWE Divas, Raw & Smackdown Results

bbb

Great Balls of Fire came and went, as did our Women’s Championship match. Alexa Bliss managed to wriggle out of the show still with the title around her waist, beating Sasha Banks via count-out. On Raw the two will meet in the ring once again – Alexa teaming with Nia Jax and Sasha teaming with Bayley. The Smackdown ladies will be in tag team action as well, Becky Lynch teaming with Charlotte to take on the duo of Natalya and Tamina Snuka.

Sasha Banks & Bayley vs Alexa Bliss & Nia Jax

Winners: Bayley & Sasha Banks

Thoughts:

I did have my little sigh when I realised it would be a rematch from last week’s tag. However that disappointment went away pretty quickly. After all, the wrestling was good. I enjoyed the match and I thought it kept the momentum from the PPV going – so why complain? During the Golden Era of 2002-2004 we did see a lot of tag matches comprising of Trish and Jacqueline against Molly Holly, Jazz or Victoria – with Ivory occasionally thrown in there too. And the matches were still fun to watch. So I sat back and just enjoyed the great wrestling. Sasha and Alexa really killed it, selling the animosity from the PPV. Unlike last week, where they gave away their bout in the tag match, here they wisely kept the two apart. Alexa and Sasha did come to blows briefly, but the story was entirely on keeping them apart, and it really worked. Bayley and Sasha worked very well as a unit – and I was loving how the two of them switched tack to try and take out Nia. Bayley vs Nia was a good match we have seen before, and they delivered again as the respective number twos of their teams. Nia really made me pop with how she threw Sasha out of the ring. It looked like it hurt (in a good way). The Women’s Champion also made me pop with her slap to Bayley – and the crowd popped too. Sadly she did mar it with the bad landing on Twisted Bliss, but sure we can’t have everything now. Bayley picked up a clean-ish win over Alexa, which does raise eyebrows. Are we getting a triple threat now – with Alexa hoping to pit Bayley and Sasha against each other? Or is the storyline going to stay Sasha/Alexa but with different layers? Either way, it’s a twist and I’m fine with it.

Smackdown

Charlotte & Becky Lynch vs Tamina Snuka & Natalya

Winners: Tamina Snuka & Natalya

Thoughts:

Smackdown served us up a tag match just like Raw. It was fun from a wrestling perspective, though there was one major weak link. I’ve said this time and time again, but Tamina sticks out like a sore thumb. Especially when put in the ring with workers like Becky and Natalya. Her selling, her movements and execution all looked slow, sluggish and sloppy. She doesn’t look like she can even keep up with them. I cringed every time Becky clearly had to slow herself down to let Tamina catch up. I did get impressed by her in the two ladder matches, but she’s not cutting it in legitimate wrestling bouts now. They teased her feuding with Naomi last week. If she’s going to get a title shot, I expect her to step it up and try to at least match the hard work the others have been doing. Yes she’s older and she came into WWE with little experience, but it’s more than possible to improve. One woman I was impressed by however was Charlotte; for the first time since her arrival on the blue brand, I’m finally buying her as a face. She’s clearly worked on her behaviour, because I enjoyed her in the ring. The double team with Becky, the little ‘ssh’ gesture and her acting on the apron were all good touches – and they felt natural. I liked seeing Charlotte becoming more playful, as opposed to pompous. And it was admittedly nice to see her be the one to put the other team over. We’ve now got another #1 contender match for the next PPV. I really wish they’d just crown challengers for Naomi on Smackdown, and have the title matches on PPV. It does feel like filler at this stage. I have no idea who will win this, because there’s no way in H-E-double hockeysticks that Tamina deserves a SummerSlam title match after her performance here.

Why WWE? Why do we have to have another multiwomen matches? Just to recap: Wrestlemania: 6 women match, Backlash: 6 tag, MITB: 5 way ladder match, and now we get the Battleground where is the same match but without the ladder. They clearly don’t have the roster or creativity to come up with new stuff so they keep doing the same things over again. They saturate these rematches and it never ends! After Tamina confronted Naomi, this is how they follow it up? Its messy, inconsistent, and most of all lazy booking. They are that lazy that for 4 PPVs in a row, they have to throw everyone out there in one match.

I also don’t like how Bobby defends this idea of rematches. Do you enjoy seeing the same matches over and over again? Don’t you ever get tired of seeing Sasha and Bayley in the same tag matches again? Imagine if at Wrestlemania 19 Trish, Victoria, and Jazz had their match, but the next PPV they do it all over again or if Trish and Mickie had a match a Wrestlemania 22 but the next night on Raw they wrestle again. It would get old very fast.

Why does Nia keep helping and tagging with Alexa after she claimed she wants to be the contender, how does that help her advance to the title in any way? And why is Sasha still sticking around in tag matches and not demanding a one on one rematch with the woman she gets screwed out with countout win at GBOF? They didn’t capitalize Sasha’s Raw Talk thing by giving Alexa a mic time to fire back Sasha and exchange words with Sasha, instead they let Sasha team up with Bayley again to have another tag rematch, now Bayley pins Alexa could be she’s back to title picture. Alexa vs Sasha vs Bayley vs Nia at Summerslam definitely worse than Wrestlemania 33 as Alexa is not as good as Charlotte in wrestling skill. Shame that no follow up for Emma and Dana thing last night on GBOF kickoff show, while Emma faces Mickie on Main Event, they should do that match on Raw with Dana turns on Mickie and reunite with Emma.

Charlotte and Becky should be top two SD women, they should not use to put over lesser woman, now there’s no clear top face and top heel on SD women division. SD creative team needs to know using all women doesn’t mean to throw all women into one segment, they should do title feud and side feud like early 2017 with 3 single feuds. They should have explained a motive of Tamina taking Lana last week, either wants to make Lana to be her manager or be Lana’s mentor, then feuds with Naomi for title at Battleground. Now Naomi may get left out of Battleground.

It makes Naomi looked bad and the most irrelevant current champ because she ultimately lacks a true No 1 contender to help legitimize her reign since Superstar Shakeup, I don’t count Lana in as she did nothing to give Naomi a great feud.

Perhaps they should do the Gauntlet match featuring 7 women for title at Battleground instead, Naomi enters last and retains, then they do No 1 contender match on SDL to decide the real contender at Summerslam.

Can you stop acting like a fanboy? Alexa is a better wrestler than that no talent bum Flair Jr. You want the demon child of Slick Ric be a top star when she’s already been pushed and shoved down our throats on Raw? You think she hasn’t pushed hard enough?!? You have admitted and exposed yourself as a mark for her.

My biggest favorite women is Four Horsewomen, their NXT matches make me invested on women wrestling. If you’re very disliked Charlotte, I don’t mind but people has different opinion, just please don’t give me an abusive reply, okay? It makes me feel hurt.

        • Francisco Baguer

Well I’m sorry but don’t go as far to say Alexa can’t compare to her. At least Alexa puts people over, how many times as that female Super Cena Flair put over unless its her Horsewomen friends? Why is she the same character for years? She’s no different as face, because she is just a carbon copy of her daddy. Using the same moves, finisher, taunts, and even his entrance theme.

          • Bobby Calloway

Lol she literally put Tamina over this week. Did you miss that?

            • Francisco Baguer

It wasn’t clean. The last thing I want is to be reminded of Summerslam last year if she wins the 5 way.

I would like more variety, but the women produced a good match so why complain if I enjoyed what was being delivered? Trish and Jazz actually had several matches all throughout 2002 and 2003, most of them good in their own way because the girls switched things up and didn’t make them repetitive.

      • Francisco Baguer

How exactly is Flair doing good as face? Her personality hasn’t changed an awful lot since then, despite no longer being a bad guy. Whats so different about her now? She hasn’t changed. She’s no different as face, because she is just a carbon copy of her daddy. Using the same moves, finisher, taunts, and even his entrance theme.

        • Bobby Calloway

In this match she was more playful and sold the way a face should. She had still been acting heelish in her previous matches.
