WWE Divas – Raw & Smackdown Results

ll

Raw is winding towards Payback, which takes place this Sunday. Last week Alexa Bliss came forward as the number one contender by winning a massive Fatal 4 Way. This week she makes her opinions on the Women’s Champion Bayley known. And she’ll also have to face Sasha Banks in the ring. Dana Brooke and her new leaf will be put to the test as she tangles with Alicia Fox - thanks to the meddling that came from Emma last week. Smackdown have a title match booked for the main event – Naomi defends her championship against Charlotte after being defeated in non-title action last week. There’s also the matter of NatalyaCarmella and Tamina Snuka to think of as well.

Winner (via countout): Sasha Banks

Thoughts:

The Dana/Alicia Fox match I predicted would happen after Emma’s trolling last week. I sadly also worried that it would be a meaningless two-minute match that didn’t give Alicia much – and I was right. She did some good moves as best she could in the measly amount of time she was given, but hardly anything that’ll set the world on fire. I write this every time Alicia appears, but she has a lot more to offer WWE than what they’re allowing her to show. Dana meanwhile didn’t have a good night. Pretty much everything she hit – with the exception of the cartwheel splash – was mistimed or just looked awkward. The two minute match probably didn’t help, but she’s not doing very well in the ring lately. And she’s not handling the switch from heel to babyface. I’ll admit I was interested by Emma making nice to her at the end, and I am curious to see what direction they take this in. Perhaps Emma and Dana might reunite after all? Stranger things have happened. I just hope WWE don’t peak too soon by just throwing this match onto the Payback pre-show.

Sasha vs Alexa was a bit more justified in being so short – not wanting to give away too much for a potential bout in the future. The ring work between them was fun for what it was – and it’s a match we’ll hopefully see in the future. I did like having Alexa walk out and get a deliberate count-out. Simple booking – keep both Alexa and Sasha looking strong. But of course what we’re all really here for is the segment that preceded the match. While this wasn’t too different from what we saw while Bayley/Sasha/Charlotte were feuding, it does feel refreshing to have Alexa involved instead. Not only because her mic skills are superior to Charlotte’s in every way possible, but because she seems able to inject excitement into everything she touches. I love it when the women can work the crowd and feed off them. It’s the mark of a really great performer. They aren’t just reciting lines they’ve learned off; they’re living in the moment and reacting to what happens instinctively. Alexa is transforming into the gem of the division before our eyes, and the crowd is taking notice. Wrestling fans are fickle creatures, and it looks as if Alexa is the one who is commanding their love now. That’s not to take away from the others in the picture – because I thought Sasha cut one of the better promos we’d seen from her in ages. I like that she’s found her niche as the badass face, even if it is too late for her big push she had last year. The end of the segment saw the best friends blurring the face/heel lines quite a bit. Not gonna lie – I’m starting to wonder if the rumour that Bayley will turn heel on Sasha instead of the other way around might be true. But anyway, this has been booked quite well for a two-week build, and I’m already intrigued to see how Bayley and Alexa will work together on Sunday.

Thoughts:

Wow, didn’t realise that the title match would be the main event but kudos to the girls. Let’s not forget that there were times when we never thought we’d get feuds the casual fans would actually care about – let alone matches in the main event on a regular basis. The build to it throughout the night was very good – with Dasha interviewing the various members of the roster for their thoughts. As for the ring work, it admittedly wasn’t as solid as last week. That was a very fun and competitive match, showcasing lots of great chemistry. This one was rather slow and sluggish starting out – and I thought Charlotte took control far too soon before Naomi had even had a chance to get going. But things improved towards the end, and I came to enjoy what they did in the ring. Charlotte’s selling has notably improved from how she used to be. Apart from how she took the wheelbarrow stunner, she sold all of Naomi’s moves very well. Even just her little ways of selling all the kicks. She made all of them look like they meant something. Although the Women’s Champion got put in peril very soon in the match, she was booked quite well towards the end of it. Possibly as a way of making up for jobbing her out to Charlotte last week, Naomi pulled out so many big moves towards the end. She looked like a fighting champion and fought back with as good as she got. I liked that move where she went from a fireman’s carry into a kick. A little impractical, but a good touch overall. I just wish Naomi would have won the match clean. It doesn’t do very much for her to lose to Charlotte clean last week, and go to a No Contest this one.

Natalya, Carmella and Tamina interfering was something I think everyone predicted. I wasn’t entirely sold on yet another random stable in the division, but their sneak attack was executed nicely. I really popped for Natalya just destroying Naomi with a surprise discus clothesline. Poor Tamina sadly looked like the odd one out. Her only contribution was the superkick – and it was badly executed at that. She nearly knocked Natalya over instead of Charlotte. Whilst I would prefer these women doing good things on their own, what they delivered here was fun enough. Notably Becky Lynch was not involved in the segment at all. What could we see from her? Will it become a six-way feud with Becky joining Naomi’s side to fend off this new stable? And will Charlotte turn face after all? I put a question mark in because it might not happen that way. Charlotte’s pre-match interview was much of her usual routine. She played heel through and through. If she were headed for a face turn, you’d think it would get foreshadowed a little. It’s enough to get my hopes up that Charlotte will stay as a baddie for the time being. While I don’t quite see what Smackdown’s end game is, at least it’s TV time.

They always let Sasha come out to protect Bayley from being outclassed and do the mic work for Bayley. Now Bayley has been getting boos thanks to Raw’s poor booking of her character.

Charlotte’s babyface run may flop like Roman and Becky may become the most irrelevant babyface below Charlotte and Naomi, plus there will ne no credible female heel on SD unless Asuka moves to SD soon, Emma should have been on SD. I feel that they might turn Becky heel in order to keep her relevant, but right now Becky is too lovable as babyface and Charlotte/Becky feud could be the most compelling future feud on SDL, heel Becky vs babyface Charlotte may flop like Paige vs Charlotte feud in late 2015, especially how the fans chanting for Becky during post match beatdown. And what about when Nikki returns, will she and Charlotte reignite their feud again.

I’d love it if Natalya and Carmella could be top heels on Smackdown. although I think I’d prefer Carmella to be babyface.

Smackdown- i have to disagree with you i thought this weeks match was 10x better than last weeks match. I felt both competitors really go for it! I highly doubt its gunna happen but i really want natalya to win the title and become the top heel even if she has it for only a month or so. Also if the rumors r true im pretty scared as it seems charlotte will be turning face! Also people r saying becky may turn heel to feud with charlotte but idk becky didnt impress me much as a heel in nxt! I would like to see tamina and naomi feud for the title and then natalya! Then have charlotte take it off nattie and then a big becky and charlotte feud!

Raw- i have a feeling alexa is gunna win idk why! It may due to distraction from sasha idk tbh

Becky is playing heel in her whole career before joining NXT, she even said that she opened to turn heel during interview: “Oh, 100 percent. And [I’ll do it] when people least expect it! Mostly for social media: Twitter or Instagram becomes so much more fun when you can be boastful and say whatever you want. You can be so full of yourself and ridiculous when you’re a heel. And if I’m ever going to feud with Bayley again, you couldn’t have her be the heel. Actually, I would love to see Bayley heel though. Wouldn’t that be funny. What would she do? Kick puppies? I don’t know!”

If they can book Becky like Neville did in Cruiserweight division, her heel run could be compelling.

    • Bobby Calloway

Hopefully she doesn’t win. Way too soon to trigger a title change or give her another belt.

Honestly I think Alexa should win or maybe Sasha turns heel there and costs Bayley the title. For last couple of weeks, the crowd was solidly behind Alexa and is clearly more over than Bayley or Sasha in their segments. If Bayley wins, I would think the crowd will start booing her and cheer for Alexa, or she’ll get a John Cena type of reaction where half cheer and half boo because Bayley has pretty much lost her personality since being champion is the opposite of being the underdog. The crowd has quickly grown tired of the same “this is my dream,” promo every week.

I think we will see a promo from Tamina, Carmella, and Natalya about being second and third generation superstars but have not received the same treatment as Charlotte. This will lead to Charlotte and Naomi coming out and say that her and Charlotte may not get along, but they ruined her match. They will book a 6 man tag match for the next PPV with Naomi and Charlotte having to find a partner. Becky Lynch agrees to assist her friend because she doesn’t like when people play dirty. This leads to the match where Becky turns on Charlotte, becoming heel. Becky will either be just like Sting and fight against them or as I said before pull a Hulk Hogan and betray the babyfaces (and her fans) and join them. Either way, Charlotte will be out of the title picture and this babyface run could either be a nice change of pace and change or character or being deserving buried for all the crap she put everyone through on Raw. Natalya should be the one to feud with Naomi for the title.

did Natalya come across as the leader of the group to you? It seemed a little like that in the promo and the sneak attack.

      • Francisco Baguer

Well she did form the group and was the first to confront Shane about this whole situation. Natalya challenging Naomi for the belt would be great. As far as Becky is concerned, I hope she turns heel and starts a feud with Charlotte. Becky has every right to join Natalya because like her, she was robbed of every title opportunity last year because of Charlotte. This whole thing comes across as a reality-based storyline where everyone is on my side because they too are sick of Charlotte hogging the spotlight and being shoved down our throats.

        • conan_kun

I rather don’t want Becky to be in Natalya’s group even she turns heel, let Becky to be lone wolf style heel like Brock Lesnar, Baron Corbin and Neville, kick all women lass more aggressively and viciously regardless if her opponent is face or heel in order to live up her Lass Kicker name.
