WWE Divas, April 25 Raw Results:

Natalya vs Emma

WWE’s first PPV of the new season – Payback – is almost here. Natalya likewise is ready to dish out some payback of her own to the Women’s Champion. She’ll be facing Charlotte for the title on Sunday – in a rematch from when Flair Jr used her father’s interference to keep the belt around her waist. On Raw, Natalya will face the returning Emma and her new attitude. We can also look forward to a lovely tribute to the deceased Chyna.

Natalya’s already in the ring but Emma actually gets an entrance. Before the bell rings, Charlotte and her father come out and sit by the commentary table. The match gets off to a fast-paced start with some mat grappling between the two. Natalya gets a fireman’s carry takeover, which Emma counters into a headscissors. Emma escapes a waistlock and takes refuge outside the ring. She bumps Natalya on the apron and gives her a butterfly suplex onto the floor! Back in the ring, Emma keeps in control with a dropkick. She locks Natalya in a full nelson, which Nattie tries to fight out of. Emma clotheslines her, but Natalya is able to score with the Sharpshooter!

Winner: Natalya

After the match, she goes to ringside. But Charlotte pushes her father in front of her, knowing Natalya won’t hurt a septuagenerain.

Also take a look at this lovely tribute to Chyna. RIP Joanie Laurer, you were taken too soon.

Thoughts:

For a three-hour show, there sure wasn’t much going on with the women. A five-minute segment was all we got. There’s a PPV match on Sunday and all we get to hype it is a short match with a staredown afterwards? WWE really aren’t doing much to pretend that this is anything other than an interim feud for the time being. Even Charlotte’s flop of a feud with Paige at least had better build-up than this. It’s obvious that WWE have lost interest in hyping up this match to us and, by extension, the fans will lose interest on Sunday. Everyone pretty much knows that Charlotte will retain – because why would she drop the title to someone she’s been feuding with for a month? The match will surely be good – as most of theirs are – but WWE has not given a reason for the fans to care. The build has consisted of a succession of wins for Nattie and nothing else. That’s not to say the match was a complete waste of time – because it really wasn’t. Emma and Natalya did their best to make their short bout hard-hitting and impressive. I’d honestly be more intrigued to see Natalya and Emma have a big match on PPV after this showing. The bump on the apron and suplex to the outside did liven up the crowd a bit. Charlotte likewise was interesting enough on commentary, but of course didn’t get long enough to showcase that. The end is a little annoying for me, since Emma has just returned to the main roster. They need to show the fans that she’s somewhat credible, or else she won’t get over as a heel. Could they not have just given this match to Summer, Tamina or Naomi? This goes back to what I said last week about WWE not doing a good enough job at establishing their secondary heels. Charlotte’s not going to be at the top of the division forever, and they’ll have a hard time getting the fans to take the likes of Emma, Summer and Naomi seriously as top heels if they alternate between jobbing them out every other week.

Raw is a 3 hour show. How come the women only have one segment & it’s in hour 3? How is WWE claiming this change in the division if they still have that mentality of putting women on death slots before main events when the crowd is dead by that point? Less than a month after the debut/return of the Women’s Championship and the rebranding of the division, we find ourselves worse off than we’ve been for some time. A three minute match on a three hour plus show would be laughable if it wasn’t so frustrating and considering Lana and Maryse’s presence on the show, that meant we saw as many women in valet roles on last night’s RAW as we saw actually wrestling. Natalya buried Emma in a 3 minute squash, Charlotte was annoying on commentary, & the cookie cutter, copy paste stare down proves thats its the same old shit every time. For more evidence of creative’s lack of effort, look no further than Emma and Becky that I’m not even sure we can call a feud at this point. They’ve had zero interaction with each other and any conflict between them exists only in a number of backstage interviews, most/all of which haven’t even featured on television.

Why they job Emma out in short match when they supposed to have many way to protect Emma from clean loss as Emma seems to be build for second top heel behind Charlotte. Like Charlotte interfered to cost Natalya a match or interference backfired by Natalya sending Emma clash to Charlotte then rolling Emma up to win or Charlotte jumped Natalya when Natalya about to win, then she and Emma double team Natalya until Becky running out to help Natalya to clear a ring. They may even do Zayn vs Jericho with Ambrose and Owens on commentary 2 weeks ago on Smackdown. Becky is on commentary too, the match ended with Charlotte jumps Natalya when Natalya about to lock Emma into Sharpshooter after Natalya throw Emma into Charlotte, then Becky joins in the brawl, eventually Natalya and Becky stand tall after they kick Charlotte and Emma out of a ring.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Summer Rae gets the secondary heel treatment. She’s been winning lots of matches lately. I hate to say it but I could see Emma just becoming enhancement talent.
