WWE Divas, April 7 Smackdown Results:

Natalya vs Summer Rae

At Sunday’s WrestleMania, it was Charlotte who came out on top to retain her title. And on Raw, she was awarded the brand new WWE Women’s Championship. But on Raw, she was also awarded a well-deserved smack of reality. Natalya put herself forward as someone who was going to teach Charlotte some respect. And she’s going to demonstrate how she plans to do so in a match against Summer Rae on Smackdown. We can also look forward to appearances from Becky Lynch and the main roster newcomer Emma.

Charlotte is on commentary with her father by her side. Natalya rolls Summer up for two to open up. She follows up with a fireman’s carry takeover and a slingshot atomic drop-dropkick combo. Summer slaps her in the face and drops her onto the ropes. She then kicks Natalya out of the ring and suplexes her on the outside. After looking to Charlotte for approval, she throws Natalya back into the ring. She throws some kicks to the back before putting on a half-nelson. Natalya fights out of it but Summer puts her back down with a spinning heel kick. Natalya blocks a second and faceplants her, before locking in the Sharpshooter!

Winner: Natalya

Natalya steps out onto the apron and gestures to Charlotte, which is wrestling sign language for ‘me and you ain’t through yet’.

Becky Lynch is being interviewed by Renee Young, black eye and all. She’s been trying to come to terms with losing on Sunday but she’s still pleased that she fought to be the best. Emma interrupts the interview but Becky is civil enough to her. They do go way back after all – but Emma points out that she was the one who got to WWE first. But somehow Becky got handed opportunities while Emma was inexplicably sent to the back of the line – which is where Becky belongs, according to her. Becky advises her to keep walking, unless she wants a black eye too.

Thoughts:

Wow, Summer Rae looked really good out there. Yes, she was working with Natalya, but she was in control for most of the match. She handled herself perfectly out there and put on a very fun little bout for us. After a notable drop in her wrestling skills when she returned from The Marine 4, Summer appears to have finally got her act together. She’s clearly been putting in work to improve, and it shows. It’s not like the women such as Naomi, Tamina and often Brie – who would try to jam pack as many spots as possible into a two-minute match. Summer has learned the art of making a match fun without cluttering things up. Natalya didn’t do much. But in a short match like this, all she needed to do was pick up the win to show that she means business. While I would love for more stuff between Charlotte, Sasha and Becky, I have enjoyed the build they’ve given us so far for the Natalya/Charlotte program. Some have suggested that she might earn it in a battle royal before she can challenge the champ, which appears to have been hinted at with Summer and Charlotte’s little staredown. Maybe the next couple of weeks will see some of the other women squaring off to try and make names for themselves in front of the champ? As an aside: they get a big thumbs up from me for referencing the Beautiful Fierce Females.

It seems that Becky Lynch might be out of the title picture (temporarily I hope) but she still has plenty of storyline opportunities. It also seems that Emma’s move to the main roster is now permanent. But, rather than just throwing her into random matches and trying to make sense of it, they appear to be setting her up for an actual return storyline. This is a great way to reintroduce her to the main roster fans, now as a heel and with a new attitude. With Becky being a pretty over star, that’s even better. I liked how they got a little personal in this interview and gave Emma a good storyline reason to antagonise Becky. As far as I can remember, the two have never worked together in WWE before; Emma was already on the main roster by the time Becky debuted – and Becky herself had been called up around the time Emma turned heel. Aside from that Fatal 4 Way on NXT, they’ve not had a match together. So I’m personally really excited to see a secondary women’s feud going on – and one that keeps Becky relevant as well as introduces Emma back to the main roster.

Great to see they planning to build secondary storyline for women division as they need secondary storylines to make other women relevant and the winner may get momentum to become the next contender for Women’s championship, instead of just randomly handpicking next contender without buildup at all.

As long as they let Becky have storyline feud won’t make her lost in the shuffle, at least better than Alicia, Naomi, Summer or Paige who have no storyline, just randomly appear to face different opponent and end up mostly losing. Non-title feud between two very talented wrestlers can also lead to awesome match, like Asuka vs Emma. Hope they can adjust Becky’s character a bit, after a lesson of being screwed by Flairs over and over again, ended up losing the feud, Becky needs to reshape herself into non-gullible, more aggressive, less naive badass babyface during the program with Emma before she goes after Women’s Championship again. If Emma stay at main roster permanently, what about Dana Brooke, can she cope without Emma on her side.

If we have Charlotte/Natalya and Becky/Emma feuds in women division, what about Sasha? If we noticed that during Natalya vs Summer, Charlotte who is sitting on commentary, making a reference to her and Summer being in BFF together plus Charlotte and Summer look at each other a bit outside the ring, will Charlotte use Summer to take care of Sasha, Summer may even bring up she was the one carrying Sasha to make her famous during BFF days in NXT.

Cant wait to seebecky prove once again why shes the fire of the division. She really is becoming the mic master

It’ll be a shame if they won’t let Becky win Women’s title at least once in her whole WWE career.

Judging from the confrontation between her & Becky, it seems Emma has now confirmed her main roster status. Although, I can’t but wonder what this means for Dana Brooke. Are they assuming that Emma just abandoned her to go jump-ship to Raw? Dana & Emma were mostly pretty tight with no signs of tension on NXT. Hopefully Dana doesn’t get lost in the shuffle down there because before Emma came along, she was mostly floundering with a wired bodybuilding Lex Luger type of gimmick.

Let see if Emma attending next pre-taping for NXT episodes starting Apr 27, usually just take 1 day to tape 3 or 4 weekly NXT episodes, like Zack Ryder attending some taping with Moho Rawley despite he’s main roster talent. By the way, how do you think for possible Becky/Emma feud.

      • Francisco Baguer

I think it’ll be great & a really fun feud. One thing I liked about 2014, was when you always had 2 feuds going on at the same time. Its a great way to give women who aren’t contending for the title something do. Plus it great for when if I don’t like one feud, I at least can get excited for the other. I’m not fan of the endless Charlotte vs Nattie feud thats happening, but I can’t complain since we now have a secondary feud, thats fresh, different & interesting. It will be a breath of fresh air to see Becky & Emma go at it as I believe its their first time working with each other.

Emma v Becky will be a very good program. Also, glad to have Maryse back. I’m over Charlotte.

If Becky gaining her momentum back after she lost all of her momentum with her tough loss at Wrestlemania and Emma getting the heel heat to establish herself as legitimate heel in main roster, both will be winners.
