WWE Divas, Raw & Smackdown Results:

slammy

Ahoy Diva fans. We have a special double dose of Raw and Smackdown recaps for you. As it’s Christmas this week, WWE aired Smackdown live on Tuesday night – immediately following Raw’s Slammy Awards presentation. There’s the much-coveted Diva of the Year presentation, as well as a match between Brie Bella and Becky Lynch. And on Smackdown, Brie will be pulling double duty – as she takes on Charlotte. We can also expect the obligatory appearances from Team BAD.

R-Truth is out to present the award. The nominations are Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Nikki Bella, Paige and Naomi. Truth announces Paige as the winner…only to reveal he made a mistake a la Miss Universe. Nikki Bella is the Diva of the Year. And she makes her return! Rather than giving us a generic Alpha Bitch speech, Nikki breaks character and thanks every Diva backstage, everyone training at NXT and every girl and woman who buys a ticket to a WWE show. She and Paige hug sincerely, making this a warm and fuzzy moment.

It’s a rematch from last week’s Smackdown as Becky Lynch takes on Brie Bella. This time Charlotte is in her corner from the start. The crowd is quite hot for Becky too. She rolls Brie up for two and then goes for an Oklahoma Roll and O’Connor Roll – getting two each time. Brie hides in the safety of the ropes and then kicks Becky downstairs. She shoves her into the corner and flips Becky to the apron. There she bounces Becky’s arm off the ropes and starts to take control. She works over Becky’s arm and locks in an arm bar. Becky struggles to her feet but Brie slams her by her hair. It’s now time to bash Becky with a series of Yes Kicks and a low dropkick. She smashes Becky with the running knee but that only gets two. Brie now locks in a grounded abdominal stretch, which Becky escapes from. Brie puts her back down with a flying forearm but she kicks out again. Brie goes back to working the arm – as Team BAD dressed to the nines are watching backstage. Brie has an arm bar locked in again but Becky reverses and hits her with clotheslines. A leg lariat sends Brie into the corner, where Becky splashes her and hits the springboard kick. Brie is able to block a T-bone suplex and land a missile dropkick – targeting Becky’s arm. She goes for a Magistral Cradle – but Becky reverses that into the Dis-Arm-Her for the win. During the celebration, Charlotte subtly blocks the referee from raising Becky’s hand.

Winner: Becky Lynch

Charlotte is in her festive best, while Becky is on commentary. Brie meanwhile hasn’t bothered with changing her outfit since Raw. Charlotte starts off by doing a Flair strut and then busts out a Lovelace Choker. Charlotte drops a couple of knees but Brie kicks out at two. Charlotte illegally presses her knee off Brie’s face and then applies a necklock. Brie works to her feet but Charlotte slams her by the hair. However Brie dodges another knee drop, and hits a couple of clotheslines. A dropkick from Brie segues into the running knee. She scales the top rope and lands the missile dropkick. It’s now time for the Yes Kicks. Charlotte ducks them and spears Brie – but Sasha’s music plays! Team BAD come out dressed in Christmas costumes. They stroll by the commentary booth and pour eggnog over Becky. The Lass Kicker responds by spearing Naomi, and Team BAD gang up on her. Charlotte ignores this and puts Brie in the Figure 8 for the win. She checks on Becky after the match, clearly finding the whole thing funny.

Winner: Charlotte

Thoughts:

Raw and Smackdown made a nice pair this week. They were rather low on the Divas action, but we admittedly did get some story progression. Usually it’s just the Divas in costumes and typical faces going over – but we did get some more material for the first program of 2016. Becky was in action on Raw, and she got a win to show that she can do so on her own. The match between her and Brie was actually pretty great. After weeks of disappointing me, Brie finally delivered something very nice. I really loved her psychology in working Becky’s arm. Countering the T-bone suplex and adjusting her missile dropkick to hit Becky’s arm were great little touches. Becky is thankfully passing on some of her vast knowledge to these girls – and it’s paying off. In the after-match celebration, Charlotte pointedly stopped the referee from raising Becky’s hand – trying to keep things all about her. This carried over onto Smackdown where she ignored Becky when she was getting attacked by Team BAD. They’ve done a good job of laying the groundwork for an implosion between the two friends and I hope we get a good program out of it. Team BAD did something relevant also – so as always I hope against hope that this means title opportunities for Sasha too. A triple threat or Fatal 4 Way at the Rumble would be a sweet way to kick off the 2016 PPVs.

On a different note, I found Nikki’s return to be a nice little Christmas moment. I’m actually happy that WWE decided to parody the Miss Universe debacle – because it gave them an excuse to have Nikki and Paige out there on the stage together. In spite of the downright rotten storylines the two of them had to go through at various points in the year, Nikki and Paige were our top Divas for most of 2016. Even if the storyline sucked, the matches they had at Fast Lane and Money In The Bank were actually very enjoyable. Neither of them had a stellar year as far as booking went, but they did their best to entertain the fans. Nikki’s speech was beautiful and classy, and led to a nice genuine moment between her and Paige. Thank you ladies for your work this year. Enjoy the Christmas celebrations.

Becky is a master storyteller that it even rubbed off on brie and how she sold the hand at the end was genious. Smackdown her commentary proved shes the best babyface as well. This week the divas segment again were worth watching for Becky Lynch

    • Bobby Calloway

Agreed. If she gets a big push in 2016 it’ll be great to see

      • Zane Truesdale

Yes she has proven to be multitalented and can carry a feaud smoothly and make it interesting i bet many fans are waiting to see when and how she will erupt and who will pay the price which is every diva

Why do Nikki and Paige hug it out, aren’t they deadly enemies within 2015. It’s insulting to the women’s division to have these kinds of moments, where storylines are ignored and the heel-face dynamic is washed away by inconsistency.

When Nikki returned, I hope she won’t have any more divas title shots next year, she can take part of No 1 contender match but don’t end up winning. Paige should take backseat as she’s overexposed too much since her debut.

How long did Becky need to endure Charlotte, she should snap and kick Charlotte’s lass right away and challenges her for divas title. Next week on Raw may have Charlotte & Becky vs Naomi & Tamina/Sasha and ended with:

    1) Becky refused to get hot tag from Charlotte and jumped off the apron, left Charlotte to get beat or vice versa

    2) A miscommunication between Charlotte and Becky ended up losing the match or when Becky going to finish off Naomi, Charlotte blind tagged Becky and stole the victory, after the match Charlotte and Becky argued, had a shoving match, finally started a huge brawl

Three month rule buddy. If it was more than three months ago then it never happened ;)

As a Becky fan I was livid with who poured egg nog on Becky’s beautiful head (guess I’m buying into the story, too bad they didn’t have stories when this “revolution” started) and I want Becky to get revenge. I do hope all this is leading to a program between Becky and Charlotte and both can get a lot out of it so when its done neither one will be left out of plans.

With Nikki soon returning and Total Divas also returning, I hope Becky won’t be robbed of a title shot at Royal Rumble and this current storyline won’t be dropped suddenly. I worry they’ll just put Nikki in there and its Nikki vs Charlotte IV instead. I hope they stick to what they’ve been doing.

Even huge babyface Dean Ambrose throwing his soft drink and popcorn in KO’s face on Raw a couple of weeks ago and bringing out the hot dog cart and did the food fight with Kane, Orton and Rollins last year on Raw

How does parodying the Miss Universe thing make you happy? It was atrocious, offensive to the women on that show, & lack of creatively from WWE. They have scarped the bottom of the barrel by making fun of that debacle, because whenever there’s a worldwide topic, WWE is going to parody it to leech off the success & controversy of that debacle because they want to steal all the credit for themselves. That whole segement was just one big Publicity Stunt to get themselves attention. Nikki winning is proof that the whole thing was rigged with a phony award she didn’t deserve. What did she accomplish this year? She was forced on us, barley defended the title, & her long reign was manufactured to erase AJ Lee. Speaking of AJ, her “speech”, is exactly what AJ said last year, but of course she doesn’t exist in WWE’s world because in their mind AJ Lee=Chris Benoit.

Did you not read the part where I said I was happy that Nikki and Paige were out on the stage together and got to share a moment onscreen?

So the story, from what I gathered on Smackdown, is that Charlotte is more concerned about winning than Becky, and Team BAD is constantly trolling them. All the while Team BAD tries & fails to be the New Day and Brie Bella proves how awful she is without her sister helping win matches.

WWE is running a split crew with a house show scheduled for Allentown, Pennsylvania and Providence, RI at the same time Raw takes place in Brooklyn, New York and Smackdown takes place in Washington, DC.

The Wyatt Family, Kane, The Dudleys, Dreamer, Ziggler, Breeze, Charlotte, Paige are advertised for house show in Allentown and Providence.

So it could mean no continue for storyline between Charlotte and Becky on this week Raw and Smackdown?
