Gail Kim becomes a 4-time knockouts champ

On the July 3, 2014, 2014 airing of Impact Wrestling, Gail Kim became a 4-Time Knockouts Champion…

TNA Wrestling – July 3, 2014, 2014 Knockouts Match
TNA Knockouts Championship
Angelina Love (c) vs. Gail Kim

—Gail Kim made her way to the ring first for this match, as we got a recap of Angelina Love’s win over Gail Kim at Slammiversary XII. The Beautiful People then made their way to the ring and immediately flirted with referee Brian Hebner. Angelina Love retreated to ringside; however, Gail Kim used the top rope as a slingshot to kick Angelina Love to the floor. Brian stopped Gail Kim from attacking the Beautiful People at ringside. Angelina Love then distracted the referee, in which Velvet Sky then sent Gail Kim flying into the ring-post. Gail Kim was never quite fully able to recover after that, leaving Angelina Love to dominate…

After countless interference from Velvet Sky, Brain Hebner banned her from ringside, and the match then turned in Gail Kim’s favor… Angelina Love was able to kick out of a roll-up; however, Gail Kim then hit her with a flurry of offense. Angelina Love was then able to kick out of a missile drop kick and then hit Kim with a jaw breaker. Gail Kim then got a back-heal trip on Angelina, and went for another missile drop kick. Angelina Love instead hit the botox injection on Gail Kim as she climbed the ropes, which send Kim flying to ringside…

Instead of winning by a count-out, Angelina Love brought Gail Kim back into the ring for a cover. Gail Kim was able to kick-out and follow up by blocking a botox injection… she was able to reverse it and then hit the Eat Defeat for the win.

Winner: Gail Kim via Eat Defeat.

Thoughts: Congratulations to Gail Kim on becoming a 4-Time Knockouts Champion, and while heel-Gail is pure gold, I am looking forward to a baby face title run. This ended Angelina Love’s 6th reign, which lasted 54 days. This was not a pay-per-view quality match, but still good… it was given time, and the ladies told a story. This was vintage Beautiful People, which has been great all year.

Also on the show was a Brittany (Santana Garrett) and Madison Rayne segment…

Brittany - Santana GarrettWe saw Brittany call out Madison Rayne, which led to a heel turn by Brittany. I wasn’t a fan of Santana Garrett’s promo performance, but what a clothesline!. The beat-down was quite enjoyable. And although we have seen this story line done before, I am hoping the ladies can bring something new.

With Knockout vets like Madison Rayne, Gail Kim, ODB and The beautiful People all in the fold, it is good to see multiple segments and feuds once again. With Taryn Terrell recently back in the mix, we are sure to see good things from the Knockouts throughout 2014.

I liked the match but again I feel like they put Gail over too early. It just didn’t feel like a satisfying enough moment. It felt more like ‘oh Gail has the title now, that’s nice’ rather than ‘yes, she’s finally beaten them’. The Knockouts have good matches but their booking is just all over the place. They’re just passing the belt around after a respectable amount of time without really giving each reign a chance to mean something. They could have really made an intense story out of this, with the Beautiful People finding new ways to connive Gail out of the title -- like how Eve vs Kaitlyn went down.

Good segment between Brittany and Madison. I liked Brittany’s delivery of “never meet your heroes!” but it should have stopped there. Sometimes wrestlers say too much in their promos. But we did have an imbalance of faces:heels and Brittany is a better choice than Madison -- who has run her course in that role. They had a good match on Xplosion so I look forward to more. The Knockouts have good workers (but need more) but their bookers just need to think of the long term when putting storylines together

Tna has been ending reigns and feuds too soon all year. Gail Kim vs. Madison should have gone on longer, as with Madison Rayne vs the Beautiful people. Hell, at this rate, we will see Taryn Terrell hold the belt as well. Maybe we will see a bit more longevity with Madison Rayne vs Brittany.

Agreed. Even this week there was a Fatal 4 Way title match just given away when that could have been built towards. I expect Taryn will feud with Gail for the belt now. Whether they keep it as friendly competition or turn Taryn heel, the matches are sure to be good
