heel mickie james–Mickie started the year freshly coming off a program with Tara for the Knockouts Championship. She looked to earn another shot at the Genesis PPV, competing in a 5-woman Gauntlet Match. It was ultimately won by Velvet Sky, who ended up winning the title in February. Mickie appeared sporadically on Impact Wrestling, mostly competing in tag team matches. However she received a #1 contenders match against Brooke Tessmacher, where she was successful. Velvet Sky narrowly retained the title against Mickie the next week. However Brooke Hogan decided to award Mickie a second title match. During the lead-up to it, Velvet suffered a knee injury at the hands of Gail Kim. Mickie seemingly showed concern for Velvet’s knee, checking to see if she was fit to compete. But in the title match, she showed her true colours; she attacked Velvet’s knee and exploited it to win her third Knockouts Championship.

She kept putting off giving her a rematch under the pretense that she wanted Velvet’s knee to be in good condition. She could not duck Velvet forever though and the doctors cleared her to compete. She was able to retain the title however. At the Hardcore Justice PPV, ODB defeated both Mickie and Gail Kim in a non-title triple threat match. Mickie successfully retained her title against Gail on Impact. However, she had to defend against ODB in September. ODB defeated her to become the new Knockouts Champion and Mickie announced her departure from TNA four days later.

Mickie has additionally appeared on a few TNA One Night Only events. At the World Cup Wrestling PPV, she was a member of Team USA, but was defeated by Team Aces & Eights’ Ivelisse. Later in the night she competed in a 5-on-5 elimination tag match in a victorious effort. She also appeared at the Knockouts’ Knockdown PPV, defeating Serena. She made it to the final two in the gauntlet match later in the evening, ultimately losing to Gail Kim.

Her great year saw her ranked #2 on Pro Wrestling’s Illustrated‘s Female 50 of 2013.

Tag Team Top 10 of 2013 – #3:
The American Sweethearts aka The All-American Girls

Amber O'Neal-Santana Garrett-The All-American Girls

Amber O’Neal is no stranger to tag team competition, having dominated the indie scene years ago – with Krissy Vaine as part of Team Blondage. In 2013, Amber re-emerged in another tag team. This time her partner was the young spitfire Santana Garrett. The duo appeared for the re-launch of David McLane’s infamous Women of Wrestling promotion – their team name was The All-American Girls. They challenged WOW Tag Team Champions Caged Heat (Loca & Delta Lotta Pain), and were successful – ending Caged Heat’s impressive ten-year-reign. Amber and Santana continued to team together across the independents for promotions such as CWF and PWX. Their alliance spilled over into SHINE, where Santana was already a regular. One match saw Santana face Brandi Wine which ended in a draw thanks to interference from Malia Hosaka. After the match, Amber made an appearance for an impromptu tag team match – which they won. At the next SHINE event, the duo was defeated by the S-N-S Express (Sassy Stephanie and Jessie Belle Smothers). Following that the S-N-S Express, along with Nevaeh defeated them again, teaming with Leva Bates. At SHINE 15, Amber and Santana faced Stephanie and Jessie Belle again – this time with the stipulation that the losing team would be forced to break up. Santana and Amber lost the match and thus had to immediately disband.
