AJ Lee vs Kaitlyn

On the July 29, 2013 episode of WWE RAW, in Women’s Wrestling action was Kaitlyn taking on Divas Champion AJ Lee, and Natalya taking on Brie Bella.

It is not often we get two WWE Divas matches on Raw, and when we do, it is always a treat. First up, was focus once again on AJ Lee versus Kaitlyn, which seem to have taken a back seat with AJ Lee’s involvement in Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston’s feud…

WWE Divas – July 29, 2013 RAW Match:
AJ Lee vs. Kaitlyn

—Kaitlyn was seen in the ring for this match, followed by AJ Lee making her way to the ring with Big E Langston. This match began with AJ Lee shoving Kaitlyn in the face, in which Kaitlyn responded by knocking AJ down to the mat with a strike to the face. AJ was able to gain early control after slingshoting Kaitlyn’s right arm off the top ropes. AJ Lee then worked over Kaitlyn’s right arm and shoulder in the minutes that followed, keeping Kaitlyn on the defense throughout. There was some “Let’s Go Kaitlyn” chants early on. After spending most of the match fighting off AJ Lee’s offense, Kaitlyn was able to get a spear out of no where for the win…

Winner: Kaitlyn

After the match AJ Lee threw a temper tantrum. Dolph Ziggler then came out to the arena, setting up Dolph Ziggler versus Big E Langston. AJ Lee stayed at ringside for the match, and eventually caused Big E to be disqualified after she attacked Dolph.

Later in the show was got Brie Belle versus Natalya…

WWE Divas – July 29, 2013 RAW Match:
Natalya vs. Brie Bella

The Bella Twins July 29 2013 Raw—Brie Bella and Natalya were seen in the ring for their match. We then saw a clip from earlier in the night between The Bella Twins and Natalya, where Natalya was refereed to the “Ugly Duckling” of Total Divas (Total Divas delivers!… Episode 1 Review). Very aggressive offense by Natalya to start this match. Brie made an early comeback after hanging Nattie on the top ropes. After full control by Brie Bella, Natalya was able to make a comeback towards the end of the match. Unfortunately for Natlaya, she fell victim to Brie Bella after distraction by Nikki Bella, who came out to the ramp blowing a duck call whistle…

Winner: Brie Bella

Thoughts: Great television match by AJ Lee and Kaitlyn. AJ Lee’s dominance was realistic, and management really gave them time to work the match. Is it safe to say that the days of 30 second Diva matches is long gone?

We saw another good match with Brie versus Natalya. This match was also given good time. The duck call gimmick was a bit cheesy, but still, this segment was better than last week’s Total Divas promo. It should have been a give away that something was up, as Nikki Bella was not at ringside for the match.

Wasn’t expecting to get two matches. I switched off before the second one aired. I’ve finally realised why the Bellas are so limited when it comes to their physical wrestling -- the size difference. They’re two of the smallest girls on the roster so working the arm or the leg is the only way they can properly control a match. It was odd to see Brie working over Natalya since Nattie pretty much controlled 90% of their last match together. AJ vs Kaitlyn was very good though I was surprised that Kaitlyn has been given another chance. Presumably this will be a mixed tag at SummerSlam -- Kaitlyn and Ziggler vs AJ and Langston? This could serve as a way for Kaitlyn to finally beat AJ without having to win the title back. Who the next challenger will be is anyone’s guess

Personally I’m already bored with the Kaitlyn vs AJ feud, it was good up to money in the bank, but they should have dropped it and moved onto someone else..It’s almost like WWE creative doesn’t know who to put against AJ next so they are dragging it out by having mixed tag matches…I’d much rather see Bella twins vs AJ at Summerslam.

have roseta come back as a good girl and have AJ vs roseta feud.

Naomi vs AJ. They had an excellent match on NXT3

hmm… AJ is the smallest in the roster, yet she can make her match with Nattie looked believable… it is either AJ is the better wrestler or it is just that Bellas move set are just limited.

In my opinion, Kaitlyn-AJ match this time is on par of what have they done in MITB 2013.

      • Bobby Calloway

Well AJ is of course the better wrestler. She at least tries to think outside the box. She’ll sometimes go for the neck as well which also works. Weird thing is I’ve seen Nikki do backbreakers, suplexes and other impact moves before so I chalk it up to them being either lazy or unsure of themselves. Sizewise they really should be faces but they’re just better as heels characterwise

The AJ/Kaitlyn match was bad towards the end in my opinion. It seemed like they were planning to finish it with something interesting, but it was predictable. The sphere can get repetitive. Kaitlyn should try to finish the matches with some of her power moves. Instead of the gut-buster, she could use a powerbomb and I think AJ would sell that really well. I preferred the second match and the finish made it memorable. The quack quack thing was so ridiculous and didn’t make a lot of sense initially, but it’s WWE and they can get away with it so I thought it was hilarious. I felt like WWE were trying to bridge the gap between the E! audience and the kids who watch WWE with this segment and it kind of worked!
