Tara Lisa Marie Varon released from TNA Wrestling
On July 16, 2013, Impactwrestling.com reported that Tara—real name Lisa Marie Varon, has been released from TNA Wrestling. They posted the following…

IMPACT Wrestling has released Tara. We thank Tara for all her contributions and wish her the best of success in the future.

PWInsider.com has reported that the release was due to cost-cutting, with Tara knowing about her release just shortly before it was made public. They published the following…

Tara was released by TNA earlier today as part of the company’s latest cost-cutting. She was informed shortly before TNA publicly announced that she had been released.

Thoughts: Very sad news, not only for Tara, but for the Knockouts Division on a whole. A Division which has been suffering for the past few years with TNA Wrestling deciding to cut down the roster. This release has brought the Division to an all time low, where we are left with Mickie James, Gail Kim, ODB, Velvet Sky, Terrell Taryn, and the scarcely seen Brooke Tessmacher (Should I count Lei’D Tapa as well?… Who has not been seen since willing TNA Gut Checker).

But cost-cutting? Really? Lisa Marie Varon is an asset. What a shame, yet they keep certain over-payed male wrestlers around. Knockouts Madison Rayne and Taeler Hendrix where also recently let go by the company (Madison Rayne and Taeler Hendrix released from TNA Wrestling contracts).

  • Artie James

Such a shame yet hogan & co keep getting money & wasting tna…..

    • Kevin Werleman

Spike TV pays part of Hogan, Kurt and high profile names contract. TNA Couldn’t afford them on their own, so Spike TV also pays part of it for the names they think are worth having.

  • Steve Trenholm

I’ve always loved Tara (aka Victoria)…TNA loses another great knockout and further diminishes the knockouts division…Let’s hope that we have not seen the last of Tara and that she turns up in WWE again in the near future.

    • jim

Most of the knockouts are old and over the hill. Knockouts divison need get younger for the furture. So tna diid the right thing by dumping old Tara to the street. Also TNA should dump old and over the hill Mickie James to the street..

      • Steve Trenholm

I don’t recall asking for your opinion about Tara, but since you replied to my post…First off I do not agree with your view of the knockouts division…TNA does need new talent, but without wrestlers like Tara, Mickie James & Gail Kim around the TNA knockouts division would quickly become a knockouts division that consists of eye candy…Beautiful knockouts are nice to look at but after you realize that they lack in ring ability they quickly lose their allure..TNA needs both to successfully rebuild the knockouts division….

        • jim

First of all.Tara was a model before she became a wrestler.Since you belive model are just eye candy and lack in ring abitity, you saying tara quickly lose her allure alongtime ago when wwe dump her.Because Mickie James and Tara are old. They can’t move fast in the ring and they can’t jump..so that mean Tara and Mickie James lack in ring ability. They can’t rebuild the knockouts with old people that can’t move fast in the ring. By the way.Taryn prove you wrong that she lack in ring ability.Taryn prove she not a eye candy.

          • Steve Trenholm

Ok..now you are attempting to put words in my mouth and you are completely off the mark about Tara & Mickie James again!!! My reference to eye candy had nothing to do with Tara or Mickie James or Taryn Terrell…Let me clarify since you apparantly were confused by it, It has less to do with TNA knockouts and was directed mostly towards what I’ve seen in WWE when WWE selects their new Divas…There is nothing wrong with Tara or Mickie James in ring ability and performance like you suggested…Taryn started in TNA as a ref and when TNA added her to the roster as a wrestler, I checked out some of her OVW matches and wasn’t overly impressed at the time, but her matches with Gail Kim have improved considerably and have shown that she can hold her own against a veteran like Gail Kim, but she lost to Gail Kim in her last match.

  • Kevin Werleman

Honestly it was only a matter of time, I saw it coming, not because she
was off tv, but she was reaching up there in age, they could only do so
much with her, she was knockouts champ for so many times. I’ve said it
before, the knockouts division needs a cleaning out, all the knockouts
with exception of Taryn has held the knockouts title, it’s time to let
some people go and Tara was on my list of people, now with that paycheck
they could maybe hire two workers on a Madison Rayne paycheck as in
super cheap and probably who lives nearby.

    Not shocked, not hurt
or dissapointed, the knockouts division needs a freshing up, they
brought in Taryn, now time to bring in a few more fresh new faces to the
division and get rid of some of the dead weight.

    • Bobby Calloway

As much as I love Tara, it’s not as if she was barely used before this. She was in TNA since 2009 sans her brief absence in 2010. 5-time Knockouts Champion and 1-time Tag Team Champion. She was featured prominently for ages and I doubt there was anything left for her to do once she lost the title. The Knockouts division does need cleaning out. The only thing that annoys me is that they could have at least given her a retirement match

    • http://www.lethalwow.com/ Lethalwow

woah… look who graces lwow with their presence.
      In response…
Jackie Moore was working for TNA beyond Lisa Marie’s 42. She even worked 2 pay per views this year at 49. I doubt age was a factor. It was clearly money. The Ageism that is present with women in the WWE, is not as prevalent in TNA. I also don’t see TNA bringing in more girls for less pay. They seem contented with rotating a handful of girls.

      • Kevin Werleman

Been a while? You know where to find me when i’m lost.

  • Eddie

Is TNA really that stupid, i understand Tara is nearing the end of her career but they could have given her a goodbye/ retirement match. Now with her, Madison, and Taeler out of the knockout division its so weak. Yet the division has had some great matches lately. TNA needs to get its act together rehire Angelina love, Winter, Roxxie and Sarita. Hell even give the new girls a chance like Rosita, Taeler and Lei’d

  • Jemma

Hogan & co are not fans of women wrestling. They will push for TNA’S bankruptcy. I hope that Tara still continue her wrestling career. Unfortunately I don´t believe we will see her in WWE cause of her age. Maybe we will see her in Shimmer or Shine wrestling against Cheerleader Melissa, Amazing Kong, Ms Chif, Ayako Hamada, Roxxi,Sarah Stock and other great women wrestlers. :)

    • Steve Trenholm

Is Ayako Hamada still wrestling in United States? I heard rumor that she returned to japan after leaving TNA.

      • http://www.lethalwow.com/ Lethalwow

She wrestles mainly in Japan, but returns for occasional shows in the US such as Shimmmer and CHIKARA.

        • Steve Trenholm

This is definitely good news..I have been a fan of Ayako Hamada since her time in Arsion and look forward to checking out those matches from Shimmer and Chikara.

        • Steve Trenholm

It’s a shame that Mariko Yoshida doesn’t wrestle in the US.

  • jim

Taeler Hendrix is youg and Taeler could be one of the furture stars of wrestling for years to come.Tna should have kept Taeler Hendrix and built the furture of the knockout divison around Tailer Hendrix,Rose,Taryn Terrell,Brooke Tessmacker, and Nicole Mattews

    • Steve Trenholm

I agree..Taeler Hendrix has become one of my favs since I first saw her on TNA’s Gut Check and she keeps getting better…I would love to see her in WWE at some point, but she might have to do what Amazing Kong/Kharma did before she makes her debut in WWE.

  • Louise

It was wrong for TNA to release Tara without a retirement match or final storyline, in my opinion. I do feel she had accomplished pretty much all she could have in the company, but she was a big part of TNA. Tara vs. Mickie vs Gail Kim at Bound for Glory would have been a fitting way for Tara to leave the company or maybe some further developments in her relationship with Miss Tessmacher. They could have made up and Tara could have wrestled her final match against her. Miss Tessmacher is the future of the Knockouts division and a lot of that is due to Tara’s influence.

    • Steve Trenholm

I agree..although I still feel that Tara has a few more years left before she has to consider retirement..That match you mentioned would have been a good match for TNA to give Tara a proper departure from TNA.

      • Louise

Yes, I think Tara definitely has a future in the independent scene, but I’m not sure about TNA. The Jessie Godderz became tiresome. It reminded me of when she wore the biker helmet, although I have to admit I actually enjoyed her partnership with Madison Rayne. I loved Tara’s match with Gail Kim at Against All Odds 2012 and wish they had continued to emphasize how great at wrestling she is by booking her in serious storylines.
