WWE Divas – February 20, 2013 Smackdown Results

On the February 22, 2013 episode of WWE Smackdown, Kaitlyn and Layla competed in tag team action against Tamina and Aksana.

WWE Divas – February 22, 2013 Smackdown Match:
Kaitlyn and Layla vs. Tamina and Aksana

— After we see a clip of Kaitlyn complimenting Cody Rhodes on his moustache, the bell rings, and the match is underway! Layla and Aksana start things off by doing some showing off before Layla gets the upperhand after kicking Aksana’s butt (literally). Layla uses her own butt to knock Aksana back down. Kaitlyn tags in and takes Aksana down with a shoulder block. Kaitlyn now has Aksana in a headlock, but ends it when Tamina distracts her by almost coming in the ring. This gives Aksana an advantage, and she sends Kaitlyn outside after an attack from behind. While Aksana’s caught up with the referee, Tamina takes Kaitlyn down with a sick clothesline. Layla attempts to come in and get revenge as once again, Aksana does some taunting. Kaitlyn gets back in the ring and is met by Aksana with a sidewalk slam for a two count. Aksana sends Kaitlyn into the corner and begins doing her sensual crawling. She gets Kaitlyn up and slaps her. Kaitlyn retaliates and slaps her back, but Aksana takes her down. After a few stomps, Aksana gets Kaitlyn in a headlock. Aksana rolls Kaitlyn over and begins bashing her head into the canvas. Aksana takes Kaitlyn down with a kick. When Aksana goes for a double fist drop, Kaitlyn rolls out of the way. Layla and Tamina get tagged in, and Layla takes control with a running facebuster. Layla’s in control now after nailing a series of moves on Tamina. Layla takes Tamina down with the LOL, but when she goes for the cover, Tamina rolls over and has a hold of Layla. Layla’s able to tag in Kaitlyn luckily, and Kaitlyn takes Tamina down with a spear for the win!

Winner(s): Kaitlyn and Layla

Thoughts: I enjoyed this match. It had the perfect combination of athleticism and entertainment. I feel like Aksana’s starting to get better in the ring again, and this match showed that she is. Layla was on fire when she was up against Tamina. My only complaint about this match is I would have loved to have seen more from Tamina. Other than that, the match was great. And of course, our Divas Champion Kaitlyn did great as well. This win helps her be taken even more seriously as champion. The post-match scene where Layla was holding the Divas Championship and looking at it has me wondering if WWE’s planning on having her be Kaitlyn’s next feud. And if so, would they keep her as a face or turn her heel? I’d love to see a Layla heel turn because Layla as a face is boring and generic, which I blame WWE for. All in all, a great night for the divas on Smackdown.

I agree, the match had “the perfect combination of athleticism and entertainment.” I am usually not a fan of Layla’s antics; however, it worked well with Aksana. Loved all 4 women in the match, good stuff, especially the slap exchange between Kaitlyn and Aksana. The finish was nice as well.

If we are not getting AJ vs Kaitlyn, a heel turn by Layla would be welcomed. Nice foreshadowing.

Definitely would love a Layla heel turn. Like I said before, she’s been bland as a face, which I blame WWE for.

A heel turn for Layla? I vote bad idea because she’s just going to get maybe one or two title shots and then get eclipsed by AJ as the top heel. Personally I just feel Layla fits the face role much better and she has run her course as a heel. Seeing her perform in this match especially makes me feel that she could teach a few of the others a thing or two. Unfortunately in WWE faces usually need a storyline to seem less one dimensional. I’d love to see them go down the Triple Threat or Fatal 4 Way route for WrestleMania since the best diva matches at Mania happened at X8 and XIX

Kaitlyn vs AJ vs Layla vs Naomi could be one of the hottest women’s matches in years. And it would be a nice way to tease Kaitlyn/AJ without really just giving that match away. Judging from how the majority of Divas have been featured across the different shows this week I’d say they’re going down the multi-participant match route. Whatever the Divas get we’ll all watch it and hope they do great anyway

You do make a point. Maybe if WWE at least gave her more storylines, she would be able to develop into a better face. And I don’t think it’d be a bad idea to see a face vs. face feud between Kaitlyn and Layla, as long as there’s an actual story.

Always the optimist. I suppose I am still stuck in the attitude era, I prefer the anti-babyface. With the Divas in recent years, they have made being a babyface the cheesiest thing ever… wave, blow kisses, be girly, be sexy etc. Layla as a babyface is bridging unbearable. And frankly, she did have a chance as a babyface… fans are not stupid, and same with Kaitlyn, if she is not over everywhere she goes by now, she won’t be months from now. I prefer her as a heel, hands down.

I don’t really mind Layla acting like that considering she acted exactly the same way in LayCool. Plus having seen her in interviews and knowing she is naturally like that doesn’t bug me as much as it does with others. I guess I’m always more wrestling-focused and I prefer Layla’s face wrestling to her heel stuff. I presume she only acts that way to make herself stand out since WWE gives her nothing. Back in the storyline with Eve she didn’t have to act like that and I think we saw a lot of her best work there. She played the fiery and aggressive face really well. I just think that Alicia Fox, AJ and Aksana are much better heels than she ever was and I’d rather one of them get invested time into rather than turning Layla for the sake of a 4 week push and then losing out on a good worker
