On the January 18, 2013 episode of WWE Smackdown, new Divas Champion Kaitlyn went one-on-one with Aksana

—We first see Layla and Alicia Fox congratulating Kaitlyn on her title win. Layla’s seen holding the Divas Championship, and she seems like she doesn’t want to give it back.Hmmmm….. Booker T and Teddy Long also congratulate Kaitlyn on her win as well.

WWE Divas – January 18, 2013 Smackdown Match:
Kaitlyn vs. Aksana

— Aksana extends her hand, and when Kaitlyn goes to shake it, Aksana gives her a little push. They lock up and Aksana sends Kaitlyn to the ropes and doesn’t let up until the referee starts counting. Once again, they lock up, and Kaitlyn gets Aksana with a waistlock. Kaitlyn slams Aksana down and gives her a smack to the buttocks. Kaitlyn hits Aksana with a suplex and goes for the cover, but Aksana kicks out. Kaitlyn goes after Aksana, but Aksana gets her with a kick to the head. Kaitlyn gets up on the apron and hits Aksana with a punch. She attempts to climb to the top, but Aksana pushes her down to the outside. Kaitlyn gets thrown back into the ring, and Aksana gets a one count. Aksana has a headlock applied on Kaitlyn, and when Kaitlyn tries to make a comeback, Aksana slams her back down for a one count. Aksana applies pressure to Kaitlyn’s shoulder as the crowd is getting behind Kaitlyn to make a comeback. Aksana now has a wristlock applied and takes her down. The referee goes to count the pin, but Aksana and Kaitlyn have now engaged into a catfight. After getting Kaitlyn off of her, Aksana takes her down with a clothesline. In the corner now, Aksana is hitting Kaitlyn with punches, kicks, elbows, and knees galore! The referee has to break it up, and Aksana takes offense to the official telling her what to do. Aksana’s arguing with the referee gives Kaitlyn the opening she needs. Kaitlyn hits a sharp spear on Aksana for the win!

Winner(s): Kaitlyn

Thoughts: This match wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t anything special. The match did serve its purpose though, which was to make Kaitlyn look like a dominant champion. And boy can Kaitlyn hit a spear or what? I really hope she keeps it as either a signature or finisher because she hits it with perfection. The backstage segment kind of has me wondering if WWE’s going to turn Layla heel and have her be Kaitlyn’s first challenger. Honestly, it wouldn’t be a bad idea at all. All in all, not a bad night for the divas on Smackdown.
