—This year, Beth Phoenix returns to the Top 10—on Lethalwow.com’s Annual Top 25 Ranking, after almost making the Top 10 in 2011—where she was ranked #11…

Going into 2012, Beth Phoenix declared that she was going to be the Divas Champion forever, and who could blame her for making such a claim? She had spent most of Fall 2011 dominating the Divas division, and having successful title defenses against the likes of Kelly Kelly and Eve Torres. Beth began 2012 successfully defending the WWE Divas Championship against Eve Torres at numerous live events, beating Brie Bella on the January 24, 2012 episode of WWE Superstars, and winning an 8-Woman tag-team match for her team at WWE Royal Rumble 2012 (Beth Phoenix, Natalya & The Bella Twins vs. Alicia Fox, Eve Torres, Kelly Kelly & Tamina).

After successfully defending her Divas Championship against Eve on the January 30th episode of RAW, Beth Phoenix declared that she had absolutely no competition. She was wrong… Tamina Snuka stepped in and gave Beth the competition she wanted. On February 19, 2012, at Elimination Chamber, Beth Phoenix defended her Divas Championship against Tamina. Despite putting up a great fight, Tamina was not competition enough for Beth Phoenix, and The Glamazon successfully retained her title. Following her victory, Beth continued to successfully defend the belt at WWE live events, as well as picking up numerous victories with her “Pin Up Strong” partner Natalya.

Leading up to WWE WrestleMania XXVIII, Beth Phoenix renewed her rivalry with television host Maria Menounos, when she showed up on Extra and challenged Maria to a tag match at Wrestlemania 28. At Wrestlemania 28, Beth and Eve teamed up to take on Maria and Kelly Kelly. Beth was looking to put Maria in her place, but her plan backfired after Maria pinned her for the win… causing Beth to feel embarrassed and even more angered at Maria than before. On the April 6th episode of Smackdown—the Smackdown after Wrestlemania, Nikki Bella defeated Beth Phoenix after a distraction from Kelly Kelly. Despite another loss, Beth got her revenge on Kelly Kelly, defeating her a numerous House Shows in the days that followed.

After overhearing Nikki wanting a shot at the Divas Championship—because of her win on Smackdown, Beth got General Manager John Laurinaitis to give Nikki what she wanted… On the April 16th episode of RAW, Beth Phoenix’s reign as Divas Champion ended when Nikki Bella defeated her in a lumberjack match after apparently injuring her ankle during the match. Beth’s reign ended at 204 days, making her the second longest reigning champion in history. Beth was unable to get her re-match against Nikki at Extreme Rules due to her injury, and instead, a returning Layla got the title shot. Once Beth was cleared to compete, she had her sights set on winning back the Divas Championship from newly crowned champion Layla. However, her attempt at winning the title back at Over The Limit and No Way Out were unsuccessful.

Beth was later involved in a feud with Eve Torres after Kaitlyn revealed that her attacker at Night Of Champions had blonde hair, which led to Beth being accused and attacked by Eve. On the September 28th episode of Smackdown, every diva fan’s dream match finally took place: Beth Phoenix faced her Pin Up Strong/Divas of Doom partner; Natalya, in one-on-one action. Both women put up a great fight, and Beth ultimately won the match. After the match, Eve—Assistant to Smackdown General Manager, suspended Beth under the suspicion that she attacked Kaitlyn, however, that decision was later reversed. Eve tried apologizing to Beth, but Beth wouldn’t accept it… This led to a match between Eve and Beth, where Beth was defeated.

Beth competed in her last match on the October 29th episode of RAW against AJ Lee. Originally, AJ had won the match, however, Vickie Guerrero restarted the match, and Beth picked up the win. It was later revealed that Vickie Guerrero had fired Beth for not doing her job right. In reality, Beth decided to leave WWE, to take some time off from wrestling to spend time with her family.

Since her departure, Beth has certainly been missed, but who knows, we may see the Phoenix rise again in the future.

2012 accolades include being named one of Diva-Dirt.com‘s Women of the Year 2012, and being ranked #2 in Pro Wrestling Illustrated‘s Female 50 2012

Tag Team Top 10 of 2012 – #9:
The Queens of Winning
Courtney Rush and Sara Del Rey

—Unlikely pairings often make memorable Tag-Teams. Before signing to World Wrestling Entertainment, Sara Del Rey was on the prowl for a new tag-team partner in Shimmer Women Athletes, in which Courtney Rush—formerly known as PJ Tyler, made vocal that she wanted to be. After being unsuccessful in her search, Sara unwillingly partnered with Courtney Rush, where the two found success in their brief run as a team…

On Shimmer Women Athletes Volume 47, the two defeated Regeneration X (Allison Danger and Leva Bates). Then during the taping for Shimmer Women Athletes Volume 48, “The Queens of Winning” won a Four-way elimination tag team match, to become the new Shimmer Tag Team Champions. The teams they beat were The Canadian NINJAs (Nicole Matthews and Portia Perez), Regeneration X (Allison Danger and Leva Bates), and the champions going in; Ayako Hamada and Ayumi Kurihara. The ladies held the belts for 111 days, and lost it on July 7, 2012, at nCw Femmes Fatales IX, where they were defeated by The Canadian NINJAs.
