On the October 5, 2012 episode of WWE Smackdown, Layla faced Alicia Fox in one-on-one action

WWE Divas – October 5, 2012 Smackdown Match:
Layla vs. Alicia Fox

— Both ladies make their respective entrances. The match begins with a lock-up. Layla controlled the match early on, but after a strike to the knee, Alicia gains control. Alicia focuses on Layla knee by using some knee smashes and a nice knee lock. Layla’s able to gain control again with a combination of kicks. The match ends after a nice kick to the head by Layla, followed by a pin to secure the win.

Winner(s): Layla

After the match, Matt Striker comes out to the ring to congratulate her on her win and mentions how he knows her ultimate goal is to regain the divas championship. Layla makes a statement to Eve, pretty much letting her know that she has her sights set on her and the divas championship.

Thoughts: This match between Layla and Alicia was better than their last outing on Smackdown in my opinion. The match was given enough time, which was good because we got plenty of in-ring action. I’m kind of confused about whether or not Alicia’s a face or a heel because it’s like one minute, she’s facing heels, and then the next minute, she’s facing faces. Maybe she’s a tweener? I loved how Michael Cole and Josh Matthews put both Layla and Alicia over in this match. They called Alicia Fox the instigator when it comes to diva drama, and they talked about how Layla has her sights set on winning back the divas championship. The post-match interview was nice as well. It gave us the opportunity to hear Layla speak and for us to know what she’s focused on, which is to get back the divas title. All in all, a great divas night on Smackdown.
