Beth Phoenix

—Raj Giri at WrestlingInc.com, has reported that Beth Phoenix‘s run in the WWE may be coming to an end. Here is what was reported…

WWE Diva Elizabeth Carolan, a.k.a Beth Phoenix, is reportedly finishing up with the company shortly. According to a source, Phoenix will be retiring in October.

Phoenix made her WWE debut in 2006 as an ally to Trish Stratus during her feud with Mickie James. She would go on to hold the WWE Women’s Championship three times, as well as the WWE Diva’s Championship.

Thoughts: If this comes to fruition, it would be very sad. Beth Phoenix despite her countless loses in recent months, is still arguably the mostly marketable Diva currently. Right up there with AJ’s marketability. It is a shame the WWE creative team has not been able to utilize that. Beth Phoenix recently lost to Kaitlyn on the September 14, 2012 episode of WWE Smackdown (September 14, 2012 Smackdown Results), and Eve Torres on this week’s Raw (September 17, 2012 Raw Results). Let us hope this rumor turns out to be false.

–TNA revealed in a press release, that Impact Wrestling will continue to be live for the rest of the year…

Spike TV’s highly-rated weekly series “IMPACT WRESTLING” will continue to run LIVE in its current 8:00pm timeslot through the end of 2012, it was jointly announced today by Dixie Carter, President, TNA Entertainment, and Kevin Kay, President, Spike TV.

The move to broadcasting LIVE has been a ratings boon and has provided a significant rise in the show’s social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

—Former 2-Time WWE Women’s Champion Jazz will be taking on Rain at SHINE Wrestling’s SHINE 3. Lethalwow.com Wrestler of the Year Mercedes Martinez will also be in action, taking on Jayme Jameson. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO.

I would really hate to lose Beth. She has so much talent that hasn’t been tapped into yet. She makes such a fantastic babyface that the fans can really get behind and yet WWE keeps her as a heel where she’s generic supposed badass #309. Then again there is very little for her to accomplish in WWE as she is already a 4-time champion and she’s been at the top of the division pretty much once every year. WWE likely will want to keep her because she is a good worker and very marketable. If she does leave then I hope Natalya is the one to retire her. There isn’t much of a better note to go out on, even if it does happen on Superstars.

The problem with Beth Phoenix being babyface, is there are no credible heels to feud with a woman of her stature. There is only so much they can do. The same would have happened if Kharma was booked as a babyface.

But at the same time Beth is still a glamorous woman who is easily likeable while Kharma can be legitimately terrifying. I guess it’s just always been a creative team last resort where it’s “when we don’t know what to do with the division we give Beth Phoenix a monster heel push”. It really is strange how the big women of WWE are much better at playing faces like Tamina and Natalya as well while the model types like the Bellas, Alicia Fox, Rosa, Maryse play excellent heels

So sad I hope Beth stays i do not want to see her go.

I wouldn’t say Beth is their most marketable Diva since they have way more faith in K2 (who they essentially begged not to depart from the company while granting her a more relaxed contract).

Beth leaving the company is unfortunate (if this is to be taken as fact) but far from ironic; recently, she’s had to take a back seat to some pretty bland women. Granted, I was never a fan of Beth’s work (she just never got over well enough for me as face or heel), I still see that her presence in the division (along with Nattie’s) is a good one.

If she truly does decide to retire, then I wish her the best. It’s unfortunate and I truly wish Beth would’ve gotten her chance during the Golden Era; I’m sure she would’ve proved her worth 10 times over if given that chance. Present WWE only knows how to work with one diva @ a time and that’s a huge step backwards.

I don’t think the WWE having “more faith in K2″ changes the fact that Beth is more marketable. In as, her gimmick. It has always been a matter of the creative team being mediocre. Kelly Kelly can be reproduced any time, there will always be a perky blonde to take the role. I see Kelly Kelly as no different than Torrie Wilson. Another will come along.
