WWE Night of Champions 2012 Results: Eve Torres

On September 16, 2012, at World Wrestling Entertainment’s Night of Champions 2012 Pay-Per-View, Eve Torres defeated Layla, to become a 3-Time WWE Divas Champion…

Early on the show, Eve Torres—Assistant to General Manager of Smackdown; Booker T, was seen backstage with the Prime Time Players, as they complained about their Tag-Team Champion shot being taken away. A trainer then got Eve’s attention, saying it was an emergency. Kaitlyn was then seen on the floor, who was apparently attacked by an unknown person. It was said that Kaitlyn could not compete in the Divas Championship match against Layla.

Later, in a backstage segment with Theodore Long and Booker T, Teddy noted that every Championship has to be defending. Booker T then said that Eve deserved a shot, after her wins in the past for weeks…

WWE Divas – Night of Champion 2012 Match
WWE Divas Championship
Layla (c) vs. Eve Torres

—WWE Divas Champion Layla made her way first to the ring, followed by Eve Torres. Tie-up into a school-girl by Layla. These two then went back–and–fort, exchanging holds and take downs, jockeying for position in the match. Eve then seemed injured after a drop-kick from Layla. Layla waited as the referee tended to Eve. Eve was playing possum, and then kicked Layla, followed by throwing her to ringside. This turned dirty, with Eve Torres showing her true colors. Mid-match, Layla found herself in a Leg-scissors, with occasional Scissor Stomps from Eve. Eve went for her neck-breaker, in which Layla reversed into a DDT. Layla attempted comeback, and went for her spring-board crossbody, in which Eve Torres moved out of the way. Eve Torres then hit her swinging neck-breaker for the win…

Winner: Eve Torres at 6:37

Thoughts: Congratulations to Eve Torres on becoming a 3-Time WWE Divas Champion. Layla’s reign lasted 141 days, and was underwhelming. These past weeks of booking payed off big-time, with Eve Torres being crowned Champion. The ladies put on a good match, but too bad the crowd ruined it, with their lack of interest. Aside from the match, Eve Torres and Kailyn were great in their backstage segments.

    Really good match

I loved this match. You have to give Layla credit. So many Divas clearly just get stagnant and phone it in -- Kelly Kelly, Gail Kim, Bella Twins, Maryse -- but Layla brings it in every match. It’s just a shame WWE didn’t book her well because with her talent she could have had a great reign like Kelly’s last year. Eve is slowly improving in the ring as a heel. She looked lost in a few places but she shows she can get through a longer match and she can only get better. Plus they now have something to go on if they wish to have her feud with Kaitlyn. Also Tamina tweeted something very interesting earlier. Now that could also be a good matchup

I’m anticipating the reveal of whom attacked Kait (Eve or one of the divas Eve hired). I wonder what will come about of Layla as a result of this (I believe this is her second defense and she lost); it’s safe to assume that this feud is slowing working towards an Eve vs Kait feud. I’d like a triple threat next.
