On the August 20, 2012 episode of WWE Raw, Kaitlyn won a battle royal to become #1 contender for the WWE Divas Championship. At WWE Night of Champions 2012, Kaitlyn gets her shot at WWE Divas Champion Layla. But will Eve Torres be a factor in the match?
Here are predictions from Lethalwow.com Writers (minus Kevin), and introducing new Lethalwow writer Eric Holt…
Bobby Calloway (Bobby Between The Ropes – Column): This is a pretty interesting situation since the rumours are going around that Eve was meant to win the battle royal instead, but from this week’s Smackdown, I don’t think she’ll be added to the title match. I just get the feeling that this will be a slow burner since the writers are taking their time with it rather than the Kelly/Beth feud last year where they were clearly booking week by week. I just imagine Eve appearing in a backstage segment at the PPV, wishing both of them good luck and ominously saying “may the best girl win.”
My money’s on Layla retaining, which is what I’d like to happen. Kaitlyn has a bit more momentum on her side, getting a clean win over Beth this week (WWE Divas – September 14, 2012 Smackdown Results), and this reminds me of Alicia Fox’s first push against Mickie – a test to see if she can handle it. This title match will help elevate Kaitlyn to the point where she can be considered a title contender but Layla will still retain and they’ll ultimately build towards a proper feud with Eve afterwards as she’ll reveal her true colours soon enough. Notice that we haven’t seen Eve vs Layla at all yet? I think Eve will be the one to dethrone Layla. Since the commentators have been playing up the “friendship” between Layla and Kaitlyn, when Eve gets the title we’ll probably see Layla sort of ‘guiding’ Kaitlyn to challenge for it. WWE seem to be taking their time with this and developing it properly, so if they continue to do so then we could get a nice well-written feud.
Eric Holt: From what I’ve seen in recent weeks, I don’t see Layla or Kaitlyn walking away with the Divas Championship, however, I do see another diva walking away with the title. That woman is none other than
Eve. In recent weeks, we’ve seen Eve playing “nice.” She has been doing an excellent job in her role as an assistant to Smackdown General Manager Booker T. She has also been praising Kaitlyn and Layla constantly, and has even gone as far as befriending them as well. Although Eve has been playing “nice” as of late, we all know that the manipulative, yet powerful diva has something up her sleeve. I have a feeling that at Night Of Champions, she will announce that she has been added as a last-minute addition to the match thanks to Booker T, making the Divas Championship match a triple threat. She goes on to say that no matter who wins, she hopes that her, Layla, and Kaitlyn can still be friends. Eve will go on to win the title that night. Post-match, she attacks both women. Eve takes the mic and says that she was just using them and Booker T to get what she wanted: the Divas Championship.
Charlie: Kaitlyn vs Layla has been something the WWE Divas Division has been sorely missing: Two distinct characters with decent-to-good wrestling skills, backed by a twisting and turning storyline that involved a third, outside force (the one & only Eve Torres). I’m thinking that since its been rumored Kaitlyn wasn’t supposed to win the Number One Contendership, WWE will pull the title switch and have Layla drop the title Sunday. But don’t expect Kaitlyn to reign long. I’m guessing Eve Torres will walk out of Night of Champions with the Divas Title after declaring Booker T gave her a title opportunity as well. This leaves Eve & Kaitlyn to feud for the title, while Layla unfortunately lingers in Jobberdom until her contract runs out, and she’s released, as WWE doesn’t seem to have the same confidence they had in LayCool.
Arron Carlton: Eve?… Wait, she was an option in predicting a winner? Well sure, it would be a nice booking for her to insert herself into the match at Night of Champions and win the belt (Lethalwow reader Paul would be happy with that); however, I am with Bobby on this one…
Layla will win at Night of Champions. A “slow burner” is a better fit for the Divas Division, as opposed to making it a 3-way match right away.
Night of Champions 2012, takes place at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
