Kaitlyn vs Beth Phoenix

On the September 14, 2012 episode of WWE Smackdown, #1 contender for the WWE Divas Championship Kaitlyn (Pics), faced Beth Phoenix…

WWE Divas – September 14, 2012 Smackdown Match:
Kaitlyn vs. Beth Phoenix

Kaitlyn‘s music hit, and she made her way to the ring. A graphic promoting Kaitlyn versus Layla at WWE Night of Champions was seen, followed by Beth Phoenix making her way to the ring. During this match, Layla was seen backstage looking on, as Kaitlyn battled against Beth’s power. The finish saw the egotistical Beth go for the Glam Slam, only for Kaitlyn to counter the hold, into an Inverted DDT for the win…

Winner(s): Kaitlyn at 2:49

After the win, another shot of Layla watching backstage on a monitor was seen.

Later, Kaitlyn was interviewed in a WWE Backstage Fallout segment…

Thoughts: This was a typical going into Pay-Per-View booking for the challenger. Winning a match, “looking strong” going into Night of Champions. Unfortunately, Kailyn’s win did not make her look strong going into the Pay-Per-View. It looked unrealistic… seeing Beth Phoenix fall victim to Katiyln’s inverted DDT seemed worse then Beth’s trend of being rolled-up, despite Kaitlyn’s equally muscular physique.

Coming after Natalya and Alicia Fox‘s wonderful match on WWE Superstars (WWE Superstars – Natalya picks up a Win), this one was forgettable.

Will Eve Torres play a role in Sunday’s WWE Night of Champions? We will discuss this in the Women’s Wrestling Round Table.

—Speaking of Eve, on September 13, 2012, she revealed on Twitter that she is now engaged, by posting a picture of the ring. Eve Torres is set to marry Rener Gracie, a jiu-jitsu instructor.

Happy for Eve and I Can’t Wait For Night Of Champs

All three of the more muscular divas have blonde hair, which needs to be changed. Nattie would look better with a very bright pink color (and it would change the scenery significantly). I always felt that Beth’s hair color should reflect the fires of a phoenix and platinum blonde does not reflect that. I actually Like Kaitlyn’s hair, though I’d prefer her as a simply raven-haired (and heel, when she gets more experience).

I LOL reading the three muscular Divas bit. I agree, I do believe diversity and having Different looks is very important. i.e. the Knockouts Division in 2007-2009. Or post-Attitude era when we had the amazing mix of Trish, Lita, Jazz, Jackie, Ivory, Molly, Victoria etc. In this case though, Beth, Natalya and Kaitlyn all being blonde, with muscular builds, does not bother me. Beth and Natalya look great with their current hair colors IMO, why change just for the reason you stated, I think the two are very distinguishable. I think Natalya looks much more natural than any color she has done in the past.

Like with Victoria, Beth has an imposing physique in the ring, and widely praised for their in-ring talent and experience. Seeing Victoria jobbed to “models”…the girls with the Diva Search sigma attached, was unrealistic. Parallels to having fans believe Kelly Kelly’s numerous victories over Beth, or Natalya’s constant losing.

I would have liked to see Kaitlyn use her full nelson bomb finisher into the barrel roll that she beat Maxine with back in February. that would have been realistic. but not a bad match at all, these two did have some chemistry and it seemed eventful enough despite being short
