On the August 20, 2012 edition of WWE Raw, in WWE Divas action, was a #1 contender battle royal, to determine the next challenger for the WWE Divas Championship…

WWE Divas – August 20, 2012 Raw Match:
#1 Contender Battle Royal
Aksana vs. Kaitlyn vs. Eve Torres vs. Rosa Mendes vs. Alicia Fox vs. Tamina vs. Natalya

—WWE Divas Champion Layla was seen sitting by the commentary table, with all the Divas already in the ring, staring in her direction. As the bell rang, all the Divas (except Tamina) apparently did not get the memo, and continued to stare at Divas Champion Layla. Tamina then took the fight to Alicia Fox, and Natalya took the fight to Kaitlyn… the battle royal finally got on its way. Early in the match, Rosa Mendes and Aksana got in a catfight, double eliminating each other by accidentally rolling out of the ring. The five Divas left, stayed in the mix for the majority of the match. All the eliminations came towards the end of the match, with Tamina eliminating Natalya, Tamina eliminating Alicia Fox, Kaitlyn eliminating Tamina, and finally, Kaitlyn clotheslining Eve Torres over the ropes to become #1 contender…

Winner(s): Kaitlyn at 4:07

Thoughts: While there was some nice spots, and nice eliminations (with the exception of Kaitlyn’s clothesline botch), this match was bad. The ladies did get to cross the 4 minute mark again, and we did see the likes of Tamina, Natalya and Alicia Fox back in action on Raw; however, this was yet another underwleming battle royal by the Divas. For weeks, we complained about the lack of Divas matches, and now, its back to hits and misses with Divas matches… more misses than hits would be a more fitting phrase.

This was Kaitlyn’s second Raw victory in a row, and with this week’s win, it is safe to say, that Kaitlyn is currently in the midst of a push. A face challenger for Layla was a bit unexpected, but it should be interesting to see what the WWE has planned.
