On the July 23, 2012 edition of WWE Raw, AJ became the new Raw General Manager, and the 1,000th Episode featured a few cameos from past women of the WWE…
WWE Raw opened its 1,000th Episode with a video package that featured numerous WWE Divas. But the first Divas segment came with AJ in a dressing room getting ready for her wedding. Next to her was Layla, with the two sharing a nice segment with cameos from “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, R-Truth and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper playing jump rope with Little Jimmy, and Mae Young introducing her hand/son… all grown up (Hilarious!)…
Certainly AJ was right, the WWE has always been crawling with unstable personalities over the years.
—The second WWE Diva of the past to make an appearance was Trish Stratus… The segment featured Triple H visited backstage by the 7-Time WWE Women’s Champion (Top 10 Former WWE Divas who should appear on Raw’s 1,000th Episode). The segment paid homage to Triple H and Trish’s July 27, 2000 backstage segment…

AJ and Daniel Bryan Wedding Segment/AJ becomes new Raw General Manager
—Reverend Slick (Ken Johnson) made his way to the ring first for the Wedding. Daniel Bryan was out to the ring next, followed by AJ’s Wedding march. As Slick was about to pronounce Daniel Bryan and AJ man and wife, AJ told Bryan that she was not saying “yes” to taking his hand in marriage, but yes to a proposal she received earlier in the day. Vince McMahon’s music then hit, and he made his way to the ramp. It turns out that Vince McMahon offered AJ the position of new Raw General Manager, in which she accepted. AJ then left Daniel Bryan at the alter…
Later on the show, we saw the huge return Stephanie McMahon, who hinted to her return last week on Twitter. Stephanie got involved in Triple H and Paul Heyman’s segment, and proved to be instrumental in progression of Triple H vs. Brooke Lesnar at SummerSlam 2012…
Rumors of Lita (Pictures) appearing on Raw came to fruition, as she defeated Heath Slater…
Also on Raw, was Vickie Guerrero, Naomi and Cameron in their usual roles.
Thoughts: Nice twist to the wedding of AJ and Daniel Bryan… AJ has been the WWE’s top woman in the past few months, but becoming Raw’s General Manager elevated her to a new level. It should be interesting to see what the WWE gives her to do in the next few weeks. She will certainly continue to do the great job she has done in the past.
Great appearance by Stephanie McMahon, with her slap being a nice mark out moment. On the subject of family and husbands, the WWE missed a huge opportunity to have Brooke Lesnar’s wife Sable get involved. Sable and Stephanie had a nice feud in 2003, and this was an organic way to have her involved on the show.
But the WWE Diva moment of the night without a doubt goes to Lita. Who answered Heath Slater‘s challenge. Lita getting assistance from all the WWE legends that faced Heath Slater in the past was a great touch. Many fans have been upset over the way Lita left the WWE, but hopefully this made up for it. She is without a doubt a legend in her own right. Having her out there with other WWE Legends certainly solidified that. Could we see Lita inducted into the WWE Hall-of-Fame in the near future? The segment certainly sets her up nicely for it.
While we did not see Trish Stratus in an in-ring segment, it was great to see Lita instead get that moment, as we have seen Trish Stratus get to shine much more than Lita has post-retirement.
While we can all be nostalgic with the appearances by Trish Stratus, Lita, Stephanie McMahon and Mae Young, the show reminds us about the current state of the WWE Women’s Division. The WWE Divas Champion was delegated to just a backstage segment, and none of the current Divas were featured in a match.
And of course, fans will somehow have to come to terms that we may not see Kharma on WWE programming again.
