Top 25 Ranking of 2011 – #9:
Sara Del Rey

Ranked #09 in 2010
Ranked #08 in 2009
Ranked #05 in 2008

—This year, Sara Del Rey returns to the Top 10 on Lethalwow.com’s Annual Top 25 Ranking. Sara Del Rey is among the few Independent workers that has been a mainstay in the top 10 each year. Her extraordinary work in 2011 made that possible once again…

First-ever Shimmer Champion Sara Del Rey continued her great work for the Women’s Wrestling DVD series in 2011. In Shimmer (ShimmerWrestling.com), she picked up victories over Christina Von Eerie, Jessica James, Yumi Oka, and Courtney Rush. She also suffered a huge loss against Kana, and tag-team losses with then Shimmer Champion Madison Eagles against Ayako Hamada & Cheerleader; and Ayako Hamada & Ayumi Kurihara.

What is primarily responsible for her rank in the top 10, is her amazing year in CHIKARA (ChikaraPro.com). In CHIKARA, Sara Del Rey picked up victories over Ayako Hamada, Tsubasa Kuragaki, Aja Kong, Jakob Hammermeie, Tursas, Kana, Toshie Uematsu and much more.

Sara also competed in Japan for Universal Woman’s Pro Wrestling REINA, Anarchy Championship Wrestling, Ring of Honor and more.

Like with Cheerleader Melissa (Ranked #10), her following among Internet Wrestling fans is undeniable. Sara remains one of the most respected female wrestlers on the web, which helped contribute to her rank in 2011. Accolades include being ranked #05 on Diva-Dirt.com‘s Women of the Year 2011; The Diva Dirt Writers’ Choice Wrestler of the Year; being ranked #10 in Pro Wrestling Illustrated‘s Female 50 2011; and more.

Tag Team Top 10 of 2011 – #9:
Team LayCool
Layla & Michelle McCool

Ranked #1 in 2010
Ranked #7 in 2009

—2011 saw the end of one of the most popular Women’s Tag-Teams in history…

LayCool began 2011 coming off of a big loss on December 19, 2010, at World Wrestling Entertainment‘s TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs (2010), where they were defeated by Beth Phoenix and Natalya in a Tables match. The team then suffered another loss on December 23, 2010, against Beth and Kelly Kelly on WWE Superstars, and lost to Natalya and Beth once again on the December 31, 2010 edition of SmackDown. Into 2011, the ladies were adding up the losses, and having very little wins. Another big loss came on January 30, 2011 at the Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View, where neither Layla or Michelle were able to regain the Diva’s championship in a 4-WAY match. On February 4, 2011 on SmackDown!, LayCool took another loss, as Edge and Kelly Kelly defeated the team of LayCool and Dolph Ziggler in a 3-on-2 handicap match, in which Edge’s World title was on the line.

While there was tention between LayCool here–and–there, the ladies seem to be on the same page going into WrestleMania XXVII. on April 3, 2011, at WrestleMania, the team of Michelle McCool, Layla and Dolph Ziggler were defeated by Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Trish Stratus, and John Morrison in a six-person mixed tag team match. Michelle was pinned in the match by Snooki. The losses become too much for Michelle, and she began lashing out on Layla in the weeks that followed.

On May 1, 2011 at the WWE Extreme RulesLayla and Michelle McCool faced each other in a Loser Leaves WWE match. The finish saw Layla pin Michelle, in which was the last time Michelle was seen on WWE television.

One thing is for sure, LayCool has been severely missed on WWE programming. It is unlikely that LayCool will be making a return to the Tag Team Top 10 next year, but with some of the booking that has been seen in recent weeks in the WWE Divas Division, a LayCool return would be welcomed.
