This week on WWE Superstars, Alicia Fox & Katie Lea picked up a win against Kelly Kelly & Eve, when Alica Fox pinned Kelly Kelly. On Smackdown, in an impromptu match, Beth Phoenix & Mickie James defeated Michelle McCool & Layla, when Mickie pinned Layla.
WWE Divas – February 4, 2010 Superstars Match:
Kelly Kelly & Eve vs. Alicia Fox & Katie Lea
—The divas match kicked off the show, with Kelly Kelly (Sexiest in 2009) and Eve making their way to the ring first. Alicia Fox and Katie Lea were out next. Alicia and Eve began this match, followed by Kelly Kelly and Katie mixing it up. Eve was tagged back in, where she hit a top rop sunset flip on Katie. Up until this point, Eve and Kelly Kelly dominated the match. After being distracted by Alicia, Katie was able to throw Eve over one of the top ropes to ringside. When back in the ring, Alicia and Katie worked over Eve’s leg, until she eventually got the hot tag to Kelly Kelly. Kelly Kelly came in with her usually offense; however, Alicia was able to counter her top rope cross body into a roll-up.
Winner(s): Alicia Fox and Katie Lea at 5:06
WWE Divas – February 5, 2010 Smackdown Match:
Beth Phoenix & Mickie James vs. Michelle McCool & Layla
—Mickie James (Most Over in 2009) was introduced as the new WWE Women’s Champion, to a huge ovation. She grabbed the microphone, and addressed her win at the Royal Rumble (WWE Divas – Royal Rumble 2010 Results) after weeks of being bullied by Michelle McCool and Layla. Beth Phoenix then made her way to the ring, addressing her accomplishment at the Royal Rumble; making history, by being the second woman ever to compete in the Royal Rumble battle royal. She went on to say that she could take the WWE Women’s Championship anytime that she wanted. Vickie Guerrero then interrupted, booking Mickie and Beth vs. Michelle and Layla.
Michelle and Layla made their way to the ring, and Beth and Michelle began the match. This was a very nice exchange from from Michelle and Beth. After tagging in Mickie, Beth laid out both Michelle and Mickie. Michelle then tagged on Layla, who was the victim of a roll-up by Mickie.
Winner(s): Mickie James & Beth Phoenix at 2:37
It was nice to see a promo before the match and Im glad Beths been reinserted into the feud and back into more of an ambiguous role of someone whos just out for herself.She comes across as really savage in the ring especially against Michelle because of her body type.
Booking didnt make much sense as surely if Vickie was so pro Michelle she’d just give her a rematch straightaway.Layla is great in her current role rather than being pushed down our throats as a wrestler.Loving Serena and cant wait to see her mixed up with some of the divas.
The WWE is finally doing something right with the women, starting with the smackdown Divas. The ladies have a voice, and fans have a reason to care about Layla, Michelle, Beth and Mickie.
Vickie being involved gave them significance. I think Beth right now, is the prime example of someone not being pushed down our throats, as far as being a fan favorite or heel. She’s a tweaner, and the WWE bookers have been comfortable with that for some time now. Layla…indeed, the best thing that has happened in her wrestling career, is being paired with Michelle, such growth as an entertainer.
