Amazing Kong

While Awesome Kong did not have the picture perfect year in TNA that she did in 2008, her name remained synonymous with Women’s Wrestling in 2009. She remained a focal point in TNA’s women’s division, and continuing to be a mainstay in Shimmer and other independent organizations.

Amazon KongKong began the year as the TNA Women’s Knockout Champion. She was often accompanied by her manager and tag team partner Raisha Saeed, and followers Rhaka Khan and Sojourner Bolt (known as The Kongtourage). On February 8, 2009 at TNA Against All Odds, Awesome Kong defeated ODB to retain the TNA Knockout’s title, and the weeks that followed saw the end of “The Kongtourage.” The end to Kong’s stable led to March 15, 2009 at TNA Destination X, where she (accompanied by Raisha Saed) defeated Sojourner Bolt to retain the TNA Knockout’s Championship. That month, Kong also defeated PrymeTyme Amy Lee in a Last Woman Standing Match at Women Superstars Uncensored‘s 2nd Anniversary Show (March 7, 2009).

A feud with The Beautiful People began, which stemmed from them attempting to cut Kong’s hair. Angelina Love of The Beautiful People was successful in cutting some of Kong’s hair on April 16, 2009, which led to April 19, 2009 at TNA Lockdown, where Angelina Love won the TNA Knockout’s title after pinning Taylor Wilde during a triple threat match. The feud continued throughout May, with Kong being unsuccessful in regaining the title on May 24, 2009 at TNA Sacrifice. During this month, Kong taped four volumes of Shimmer. This included three big wins. In Shimmer Volume 23 she defeated “The Latina Sensation” Mercedes Martinez, and in volumes 24 and 26, she and Sara Del Rey picked up tag team victories.

Kong continued to be a top contender in TNA’s Women’s Division, and began a rivalry against Tara. The feud led to two pay per view bouts, where she wrestled at TNA Bound For Glory (October 18 , 2009), and lost to Tara in a Six Sides of Steel match at Turning Point (November 15 , 2009). Kong ending the year challenging Mercedes Martinez for the WSU Championship (December 12, 2009), and participating in the TNA New Year’s Knockout tournament (December 31, 2009).

Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed

Throughout 2009, Raisha Saeed (Melissa Anderson) continued as Awesome Kong‘s manager and tag team partner. The two were one of the established teams to participate in TNA’s Knockout Tag Team Championship (to crowd the first ever champions). On August 27, 2009 the ladies advanced in the tournament, however, they lost in the second round to Sarita & Taylor Wilde on September 17, 2009. Both matches exposed friction between Kong and Raisha. Their tension came to ahead on October 18 , 2009 at TNA Bound For Glory, where Kong was about to defeat ODB to win the knockouts title. Miscommunication between the two cost Kong the match. There almost 2-year relationship on TNA television came to an end on October 22, 2009 on TNA Impact, where Awesome Kong defeated Raisha Saed. Following the match, Awesome Kong power bombed Raisha off the Impact Zone entrance ramp. This was the last time “Raisha Saeed” was seen on television.
