Tara
2009 was an incredible year for Lisa Marie Varon, who went from being a WWE jobber, to the top babyface in TNA Women’s Division.
In January of 2009, Lisa Marie Varon’s almost decade long career as “Victoria” in the WWE came to an end. On January 9, 2009 on Smackdown, she and Michelle McCool suffered a loss at the hands of The Bella Twins. A week later (January 16, 2009), she was defeated by Michelle McCool, which was booked as her retirement match. Later, on April 5, 2009 at WrestleMania 25, she made a one-off appearance, participating in a special 25-Diva “Miss WrestleMania” Battle Royal.
On May 28, 2009, Lisa made her debut in TNA on iMPACT. There, she attacked Beautiful People members Velvet Sky, Madison Rayne, and TNA Knockout champion Angelina Love. Lisa was then know as “Tara,” and a feud commenced in the weeks that followed. On July 9, 2009 on TNA iMPACT, Tara defeated Angelina Love to become the TNA Women’s Knockout Champion. Tara became the second woman to hold both the TNA Women’s Knockout Championship and the WWE Women’s Championship. Tara was later screwed out of the title by referee Mark “Slick” Johnson on July 19, 2009 at TNA Victory Road, where Angelina Love won the title despite Tara’s foot being on one of the ropes.
As her feud with The Beautiful People fizzled, she found herself on the bad side of Awesome Kong. The two had pull apart brawls in the weeks that followed, and on August 13, 2009 on TNA iMPACT, Tara pinned an unsuspecting Awesome Kong in a 4-Way match. ODB then got mixed up in the feud, and the three battled at TNA Bound For Glory (October 18 , 2009), where ODB retained the TNA Women’s Knockout Championship. Tara went on to beat Awesome Kong on November 15 , 2009 at TNA Turning Point in Six Sides of Steel match, and defeat ODB on December 20, 2009 at TNA Final Resolution, to become a 2-time TNA Women’s Knockout Champion.

Tag Team Top 10 of 2009 – #5:
Ashley Lane & Nevaeh
In 2009, Ashley Lane & Nevaeh continued to be one of the most recognizable tag teams among women’s wrestling fans, despite not wrestling a lot of matches together during the year. This, like with The Canadian Ninjas, was due to the significance put on Shimmer Women Athletes DVDs by online women’s wrestling fans. Nevaeh was one of the names consistently noted in any TNA Knockout wishlist, with hopefulls wanting her to join Ashley, who portrayed Madison Rayne in TNA. On May 3, 2009, during the taping for Shimmer Volume 26, Portia Perez & Nicole Matthews defeated Ashley Lane & Neveah to win the Shimmer Tag Titles, which brought their reign as the first-ever champions to an end.
